2012 vintage poured into Firestone Walker snifter.

Pours a dark fig color with small tan head that leaves a thin ring around the edge of glass.

Aroma is deep dark fruit, vanilla, bourbon, charred raisin, molasses, leather, prune juice, and faint horse saddle. Oak bounds everything together.

On the palate you get bourbon, raisin, fig, date, caramel, prune, artificial vanilla, brown sugar, cherry cordial, port, and many other things. This is a complex beast! The barrel aging is downright popping the base beer. You get the booziness from the barrels but only enough to help balance out the sweetness. Just tasty as heck!

The mouthfeel is spot on for the style. Medium creamy body with just enough carbonation to add some depth.

Overall this is a real treat! Would love to have easy access to Kuhnhenn. The best old ale I've had in a 12 ounce format. The second best old ale I've ever had behind Old Stock Cellar Reserve Brandy. And only by a few hairs! I like the way this tastes with a year + on it. Can't help but wonder when the sweet spot is for this. Can see it aging well for years to come.

The beer comes in a dark mahoghany color.

The aroma has tons of juicy sweet raisins, figs, plums, and then vanilla and a big toffee, brown, caramel sweetness.

The flavor follows with lots of rich sweetness. Vanilla, molasses, sweet raisins and dried dark fruits. Along with a woody flavor in the middle and then an oak finish on the back.

The barrel does this beer wonders by blunting many notes and melding them into a drippy sweet luscious beer.

2012 vintage poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Kuhnhenn branded short stemmed tulip/snifter

Pours a murky amber capped by a very light beige one and half finger creamy head. Dissipates within a couple of minutes, but above average retention for a BA brew, just a few hints of lacing. Bold nose, deep aroma of dark fruit, oak, brown sugar, toffee all capped by bourbon booziness. Opens with dark fruit including black cherries, sugar plums, prunes and raisins, and hints of dates joined by rich molasses, caramel, and brown sugar, some nuttiness and biscuit accents midpalate. Finishes with toasted oak, vanilla, continued dark fruit, and pleasant bourbon booziness. Low carbonation, syrupy full body that is amazingly smooth and velvety with just a bit of creaminess. This amazing brew is definitely one of my personal favorites. One of, if not the best BA Old Ale available. Whether fresh or aged this ridiculously complex brew delivers.
