Poured into a balloon glass. Incredible thickness. It's a murky deep brown color with a red hue throughout. Topped by a creamy, orange-tan head, about an inch thick. Head dies down after several minutes.

Aroma is of rich sweet caramel, toasted marshmallow, charred oak, very faint hint of the alcohol, and chocolate truffle. Robust aroma.

Well hidden alcohol. This is a very smooth, creamy bodied ale, full yet soft on the palate with a good level of carbonation. Sweet up front with notes of toffee. Mid palate has a little warmth to it, showing its strength. The barrel character expresses itself on the roof of the mouth, with a little molasses note on the sides of the tongue.

Goes down so so easily. Very great barrel aged beer. When the barrel aging seems to just mellow everything and create something that has the quality of a lower alcohol beer, and passes over the palate with ease, that's when the brewer has utilized the barrel to its best effect. This is masterful.
