Notes: This gold colored West Coast style Double India Pale Ale has an intense hop nose, with aromas mainly of citrus. The high hop character dominates this IPA’s flavor profile. Made with American long grain rice, it is quite difficult to make but the rice contributes to this beer’s crisp aftertaste.

Had at Uptown Grille Commerce MI> Holly shit these are good.

A_ Dark gold with a frothy one finger bone whit head.

S_ Hops, citrus , and pine. For a 10.5 ABV you cant tell by smell.

T_ Crisp citrus, pine , and floral taste. Same with smell no alcohol burn.

M_ Thin and crispit finishes dry. Really nice could have a couple.

D_ Besides the buzz drinks like a reggo IPA. Be careful.

On-draught @ One Mile House. 12oz for $7.00 USD. 9.5% ABV.

Appearance: Vibrant gilded copper body. Clean, lacking any visible yeast chunks or floating lees sediment. Head is white and coating, with a robust consistency and a nice complexion.

Aroma: Assertively hopped, bursting with clean citrus, bright floral notes, and subsidiary notes of resin, if not pine, spruce, and evergreen. Not as juicy as could be ideal if we're nitpicking, but overall it's a gorgeous aroma for an imperial IPA and pale malts are present in just enough quantity to keep it balanced. I won't pretend I can detect the rice, but maybe it helps leaven the malt presence (a nice change from the usual weighty caramalt). Fresh and mouthwatering, though it could boast still more pungency.

Aromatic intensity is mild for the style.

TASTE: Assertive indeed, with a citrus and floral dominant hop profile backed by subtle spruce and resins (no oily pine needles or evergreen, unfortunately). Citrusy without resorting to cheap grapefruit bitterness like so many classically hopped (I)IPAs. Zesty, fresh, multidimensional.

Complex without being overcomplicated, with enough subtlety to its execution that discerning drinkers will be intrigued. Well-balanced, though it's straddling the line of being too bitter for my personal hop tolerance. Still, the bitterness is justified by concomitant hop flavours.

Nice depth of flavour. Well built across the board, though again I don't pretend to pick up on the rice.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, crisp yet not overcarbonated, medium-bodied, refreshing. No trace of its ABV at all. A frothier creamier softer mouthfeel would probably be preferable even though the crispness is nice.

OVERALL: Remarkably drinkable for its high ABV. I haven't had much Kuhnhenn, but I'm glad I got to try this one and I'd definitely recommend it to others. There are no faults here - just ways it could be improved. Solid work from a brewery I'd love to try more of.

Very modest head production from a strong pour; retention is in a similar category. Body is a lovely bright golden hue, lively and completely transparent.

Bright, juicy hops are apparent from the pour; up close, it's an intensely aromatic brew. This reminds me of some of the best old-school IPA aromas: citrus, flowers, honey, and pine; slightly dank and resinous. Strong and inviting.

Flavor and feel are, in a single word, delightful. Strong bitterness, smooth feel bordering on syrupy. This brew is absolutely swirling with delicious hop tones mingled with sweet honey and brown sugar from the malt base. So many hop tones it' hard to identify them beyond bright and juicy.

Some heat from the ABV, but far less than 9.5% ABV deserves.

Damn near a TIPA in intensity and feel. This is a beer fully deserving of the hype!

16 ounce prowler into tulip glass, filled on 11/4/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Nice appearance, despite lack of carbonation. Aromas of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, white bread, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, white bread, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, white bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Mild carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, grainy, sticky, and fairly resinous/rind balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is fairly well hidden, a mildly increasing warmth of 9.5% after the finish. Overall this is an amazing DIPA! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV. Even with the lack of carbonation in this prowler, this was still a winner. Great mix of dank and vibrant hop complexity; with a really lightweight malt body for the ABV from the rice as expected. Just enough there to balance the fairly aggressive bitterness. A highly enjoyable offering.

A - Pours very cloudly golden color, nice head that fades rapidly to a covering.

S - Lots of luscious, tropic fruit aroma. Lychee, mango, passion fruit, along with some tart citric grapefruit.

T - The aroma translates to the taste, tropical fruit galore, sweet malt, but the citrus hops come on stronger at the end with some nice grapefruit bitterness.

M - Fairly thin for such a high gravity DIPA. I'd like a bit more carbonation since it is lighter bodied. Is it possible for a 9.5% beer to be refreshing?

O - Not the most attractive beer, but an amazing aroma and flavor. When I saw it was a rice beer...I almost didn't even give it a try, so glad I did. This is a great beer and talk about making great use of rice.

Solid look to this beer with an inch and a half of light off white head. Body is bright vibrant gold in color. Nose is just a nice mix of fruity and grassy hop notes. With first sip hops are really the star here with nice sweetness and a gambit of hop variety. Fruit, citrus, pine and woodsy resin all play in the flavor profile. It gels so well together in terms of hops and malts. This is a perfect double IPA.

Bought at The Beer Baron in Burton MI. $18.00 for a 64oz growler. Poured first rate with a tube and fresh cap and tape.

A- Lovely golden colour. As typical for a growler that has been bounced around a bit there wasn't much crack to the cap nor foam however I am rating it based upon what I tasted in the bar.

S- Hoppy good! So airy and light at the same time, interesting

T- WOW this one is dry and hoppy. So refreshing. Can't even find the 9.5% at the beginning. Extra hops, extra goodness.

M- Dry, dry, dry. The rice dryness just shines through

O- Excellent! Will try again when I see it

Overall an excellent IPA!

Sorry, no food match on this one :(

Thx for reading

Served from a cask at the General Sutter. Wow! The Gotham Imbiber has done well.

A: The IPA is a tea-colored ale, a mild brown hue that retains its clarity. Not much head.

S: The nose is hoppy but very restrained. The nose suggests that the ale was primed, perhaps with turbinado sugars.

T: The ale is a combination of sweetness upfront and hops on the backside. The ale seems to be primed, with a sweetness upfront that screams darker sugars, even molasses. The hoppiness is evident but restrained (especially compared to other Kuhnhenn brews). Citrus flavors are there, but they are restrained, settled down by the cask. Rice, I'm not really sure what to look for there. I do like this ale though, one flavorful brew.

M: Sweetness gradually transitions into smooth hops. The bitterness is relaxed, barely a DIPA on cask. Wickedly good, possibly my favorite for the day.

D: Too heavy too pound, too good to avoid. When I saw this cask my glass was already full. I immediately tracked down a second glass to ensure that I got to try it. Very good!
