Brewed with 70% Pilsner malt, 30% Michigan raw organic Wheat and bittered with German Hallertau. German hefeweizen yeast was first used to ferment the wort followed by secondary maturation on 3 strains of Brettanomyces infused with montmorency cherries. The blueberry version was carried out the same but infused with Michigan blueberries.

On tap at Kuhnhenn for Summer Solstice '13. It pours a sunburst, vibrant orange color with a somewhat surprising lack of blue hue anywhere. Translucent and served with nearly no head; only a gray-tinted ring outlines the edge of the brew. Several attempts of swirling the glass only result in a wispy skin that fades back to a ring within seconds. I guess it was not meant to be.
The aroma is blueberry, full-force, as it should be. I actually think they're more sweet and fragrant than sour; perhaps there's a slight bit of tartness that's hiding somewhere in there. Think along the lines of blueberry syrup - a very "deep" and sweet and syrupy aroma. A touch of oak-like dryness finishes it off, though I don't know if this beer ever even sat in a barrel. Not quite complex, but it does smell pretty nice.
A little bit of tartness is in the taste, possibly a bit more than the aroma would have you believe, but we're still pretty far from outright puckering levels of sour. The blueberry is contained a bit more and not quite as pungent, but it's still there and still leading the pack. The fruitiness, like many of Kuhnhenn's fruit infused beers, is very pure and authentic, and that's one of the most important aspects.
Light lemon-y tartness, cherries, and a touch of vinegar acidity joins the blueberry in smaller parts to add to the complexity of the flavor just a bit. The tartness actually grows as the beer warms. Though it was made with Brett, I'm not getting much funk at all, or for that matter, any Brett qualities at all, aside from maybe a hint of pineapple on the very back end. Light-bodied with a thin, crisp and dry finish - can't believe this is 9% ABV, because it drinks like less than 5%.
I'm very impressed with Kuhnhenn's ability to hit almost each and every style of beer. I enjoyed this back to back with the pineapple version, and while I liked that one better, this beer was still damn good. Something like this certainly hit the spot on an 85 degree, Friday afternoon. Drinks way too easy for being 9% ABV.
