Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.75%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This West Coast IPA was made to be a session IPA. It is very light gold in color with an intensely hopped nose. It has a high citrus hop flavor with a dry crisp aftertaste. If you like the DRIPA and want to last longer, try the Fluffer...

A: Poured from the growler (purchased at Westmere Beverage in Guilderland on 11/29/12 for $15.99) into a pint glass. Body is clear and light - golden yellow with a small (half-finger) white head. Some splotches of lace cling to the glass.

S: Hops: some florally and herbal hops along with the usual American-style citrus. Modest sweetness too, which reminds me somewhat of tropical fruits.

T: Also hop-centric, with a big hit of grapefruit - more pith or peel than the fruit itself. Some lemony zest, a good dose of floral notes, and a just a touch of pine. Hint of garlic makes me think Amarillo or Simcoe might be in the house tonight. Light but sweet malt is there in the background, provides some modest balance to offset the hops, which are surprisingly (given the nose) muted in their bitterness. The abundant floral notes and light color make me think of Imperial Pilsners from time to time.

M: Light in heft. Carbonation is modest.

D: Good stuff. This is the second "session IPA" that I've had of late, following Lagunitas Daytime (am I smelling a trend here?). Both are quite good, hop-forward beers that are light in color and ABV but not in taste. This would make a good "summer IPA" - if that makes sense.

On tap at Kuhnhenn Brewery in Warren. Pours a pale straw color, almost similar to the color of Mott's apple juice, with a mild haze to it, still allowing large amounts of light through. Small head, most likely due to the tap pour, tiny bits of lacing along the glass.

This one had quite a large, fruity, citrus aroma to it; lots of peach and mango, also some mild grapefruit. Light hoppy and pine resins on the nose, too. Pretty much everything I love about American hops, collaborating nicely in the glass. Smells like a lighter version of Kuhnhenn's own DRIPA.

Taste comes through even harder on the hop-side of things; pines, pine trees, resins, light floral flavors. The mouth and flavor were just a touch watery, probably given the low ABV of the beer, but still - it packed a reasonable sized hop punch. The bitterness was there, albeit mild overall.

Citrus on the palate was a bit lighter than it was on the nose, which is to be expected. Aftertaste full of wet, grassy hops and some peaches and grapefruit rinds. Thin-medium bodied with a medium-high amount of carbonation. Goes down quite easily for having such an explosive flavor; extremely drinkable.

Very good IPA here, especially considering the fact you could drink this bad boy all day. It drinks much more like a regular Pale Ale, and I'm not even sure what the difference is that makes this an "IPA". Nice to know you can throw back a few of these without getting silly.

For a sessionable IPA, this is the best I have had to date. I actually didn't realize the abv was so low.

Good citrus American IPA. Very light orange body,a little lace ( though I found it watered down a bit). Cat p aroma in quantity, using lots of citra which imputes a bold taste. Lots of malt, Carmel, and some fruit. Bittersweet finish. Decent drinkability.

Transparent yellow with about a finger of head. Nice lacing. Quite deceiving as its almost pilsner looking. Smells piney and citrusy. Some pineapple and peach notes. Pretty complex hop profile for 4.75%. Taste has pine and citrus like the nose. West coast style hoppiness...Not much in the way of malt, but that's just fine here. Dry and finishes clean. Mouthfeel is light and airy. A great session and well made beer. Right up there with All Day IPA.
