The head overflowed out of the bottle as soon as I opened it. Some sediment plopped into my pint glass as I poured it. It's slightly cloudy with a nice dark blood orange color. The head settled to a nice half finger that is an off tan orange. It has a very traditional pumpkin pie flavor but not too sweet. Maybe a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon. All of those flavors from the nose carry over to the tongue. It has a nice balance of bland pumpkin and sweet spices. It's a bit over carbonated and it has a touch of a soapy aftertaste.

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of sweet malt, cream, yam?, slight pale malt, and a hint of spices. Fits the style of a Pumpkin Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, cream, yam?, slight pale malt, hint of hops, hint of yeast, and a hint of spices. Overall, odd aroma and body, cant quite pinpoint the flavor (is it yam or some unusual spice), still low complexity.

12oz served in an Allagash cervoise

A - GUSHER! Overflowed as soon as I opened it. (Served cold at 43 degrees) Quickly poured it and a massive 2 finger lightly tanned head formed. Below was a murky brown with chunks of sediment swirling around.

S - Nutmeg, sweet grains, pumpkin puree, metal, nuts.

T - Nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, clove, bitter pecans, semi-sweet pumpkin, gingerbread malt,

M - Moderate prickly carbonation, full bodied, semi-chewy but smooth.

Well it's another gusher from this brewery. This is one of the better beers I've had from them. It has very good potential but needs some work. I will say that I've had this at a festival and it was much better.

12oz into a pint glass.

Murky brown with reddish highlights and a head that quickly dissipates. I assume the oil in the pecans has affected head retention a bit. A little bit of sediment.

Cinnamon, clove, a brown sugar and pumpkin like sweetness on the nose at first. A deep whiff of the brew reveals a touchy of nuttiness and more spice.

Brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon with a touch of ginger and clove on the tongue. Pretty sweet, almost cloying but not there yet.

Medium bodied with a touch of drying and a tickle of carbonation.

Good spice with some sweetness that is a bit all over the place. An average pumpkin beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and had to do it rather quickly as it wanted to slowly gush out soon as I popped the cap.

A- A very inviting dark caramel brown with a 1 finger creamy head. Sticky lacking. Poured with a little bit of chunkies from the bottom of the bottle.

S- vanilla, pumpkin spice, and everything nice.

T- vanilla and pumpkin spice again. Pumpkin pie filling. Graham crackers. A little buttery and nutty. Warming alcohol. The pumpkin spice is a little too dominating though. I think they used just a tad too much. Need to tone it down a bit and then there would be an excellent balance to this brew. But good nonetheless.

M- Medium body with the perfect amount of carbonation. Warms the tongue with it's creaminess. This is where many pumpkin ales fail...their bodies are way too light. But not this one.

O- not the best I've had, but very very good. Great body and look. Just need to tone down on the spice a bit. At times, it was a little overwhelming. I will be sharing around Thanksgiving though.

Updating my ratings as of 10-13-12, this years version is much better wwith no gushing!

Tried to review this last Spring but got a gusher. This fresh one is also a gusher, ugh (not as bad)

Pours a super-effervescent & hazed caramel with 1+ finger of tan head. Some floaties, good head retention & above average lacing

S: Pumpkin pie spice & faint metallic notes

T: Nice pumpkin pie spice, some squashy notes up front. Some woody dryness as this warms, along with more all-spice & nutmeg, plus a touch of canned pumpkin pie. Finishes sweet, with requisite pumpkin pie spices & just a touch of herbal/woody bitterness probably from the pecans added to balance this out

MF: Medium bodied with firm carbonation that smooths out as this warms

I wanted to like this more, but it is what is an average pumpkin ale. I will re-sample with a lager temp bottle some time soon, but I'm guessing that will not really help the taste. If you dig this style, give it a shot, but open it outside or in a deep sink!

I don't know what happened last year, but this years batch of Chucks Pumpkin Ale is fairly good. The beer pours a hazy dark orange/brown with a thin tan head. The pumpkin flavor really shines through in this beer, but hides many of the other flavors. You can taste the oklahoma pecans and spices, but they are pretty muddled. Although I find the pumpkin to be a little over powering in comparison to the pecans and vanilla bean, it is still a very pleasant and satisfying fall pumpkin ale. I will be purchasing another 4-pack, even with the $9 price tag.

I tried this beer at a small beer festival and loved it. Then I found it in the store and took some home and opened one up... completely different experience. Each bottle gushed like crazy when I opened it and wouldn't stop... I must have lost about 1/4 of the beer. Once I finally got it settled in my glass it just overwhelmed me with malt and little to no pumpkin flavor. Pours a generic amber color with little head retention. Loads of dead yeast settled at the bottom of the glass... more than should be there. I wish I could get my hands on what was distributed at the festival... I liked that beer.

Had only a small taste, could have gotten a bad batch. Definitely something wrong, very carbonated, tasted acidic(?). All four bottles spewed, spewed, and spewed; until the bottles were practically empty. Was excited to try an Oklahoma beer, but would avoid buying again.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a dirty yellow color with a white head. The aroma is cinnamon and cloves with some toffee and pumpkin. The flavor is less complex. All I really get is the pumpkin along with what I believe is allspice. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not bad, but not one I will see out again.

This beer had an earthy smell with hints of tobacco. The color was a golden orange. The taste was mostly pumpkin and tobacco with very little cinnamon spice. The beer as very spicy on the back of the tongue and throat, which was similar to tobacco's spiciness. The drinkability is average because could only drink about two of these in one sitting. Overall, the beer is good and had less cinnamon spice than other pumpkin ales that i have tried. Again, the taste was mostly pumpkin and tobacco. The beer was rather expensive ($10 for a 4 pack) so i would recommend just getting a couple of singles to try. Pretty good beer.

Poured into a pint glass a cloudy caramel color with an inch of tight, white head.

I get a distinctly cardboard aroma upfront with some vanilla and holiday spice hidden in the back.

The taste is better as the cardboard is less prominent. I'm getting a sweet malt base with a nice blend of spice, vanilla, and toastiness. If not for the fact that the cardboard character sneaks up at the end, this could be a nice beer.

Mouthfeel is decent, but I still think this is overcarbonated like the other beers I've tried from Battered Boar.

Overall, this is the best beer I've had from this brewery to date. If not for the very evident cardboard character this beer would hold up very well to others in this style. The spicing is very well done in that it's pleasant, subtle, and not in the least bit artificial tasting. They just need to clean up some of the off-flavors and maybe work with a yeast that's better suited to bottle conditioning, as every beer I've had from them is overly yeasty despite careful pours.

Blech.
