a little bit understated, but i really liked this beer, and my doppelbock loving lady thought it was prime, and i trust her judgement on this style. its classically styled, german in malt and yeast, readily identifiable as a fine example of the style, and really quite nuanced, mild as it all is. overripe banana, clove, molasses, date, raisin, rum, toffee, bran, and even red apple. there is plenty of sweetness to it, but its not overpowering, and there is a definite earthy element to the yeast that grounds it nicely. i dont mind the body being a little light here either, these can get really heavy as they warm, and this one doesnt at all. i love the chalice its served in too, thoughtful glassware is always a nice touch at a brewery, and its perfect for this beer. lacy and rich headed, bubbly enough, and with a very flavorful lager yeast strain that lingers awhile. well made lager, i thought all of the beer in here was quite good, but it was the classic styles like this one and the english ipa that turned me on the most!
