Poured in a pint at their Greenway pub, the Terminator is a deep, dark ruby with a tall, 3-finger, light brown head, which subsided fairly quickly and left little lace.
The aroma is robust, all roasted malt and a touch of coffee, nice.
The taste is not as deep, still heavy on the roasted malt, coffee and some chocolate, it is bittersweet with a touch of hops on the finish, with a fleeting aftertaste. It is a good, if average, craft stout.
The mouthfeel is ok, a bit heavy for the ABV, with very little carbonation, but served at the appropriate temperature.
The drinkability is moderate, it is a fine enough stout, although there is not a lot of complexity that is worth exploring, and it is a bit heavy for the strength.
Try their 'Rubinator', which is a mix of the Stout with their raspberry pale ale, Ruby. It is really good, much more drinkable then the plain stout (although I've never sessioned these, I doubt the subtle, real berry flavor would build too much)

Brought this bomber back from my recent beer mecca to Portland. Purchased at the McMenamins Mall but says it's bottled in Troutdale.

Poured an opaque black with a finger of dark molasses brown head which disappates to a sad looking film pretty quickly. Smell is pungent but one-dimensional, of toasted dark malts. Taste is sweeter but retains the toasted character of the aroma. Bitterness is just right, subtle and well-balanced.

Where this beer shines is in drinkability and mouthfeel. It's strongly carbonated giving a crisp dry feel that doesn't sit heavy and therefore lends itself to session drinking more than a lot of other stouts. I wouldn't go out of my way for it if I were back in Portland, but it's one of McMenamin's better ales.

Black with small off-white head that leaves some small patches of lace.

Sweet and roasty, with coffee, cocoa and vanilla.

Sweet roasty malt, slight coffee note balanced by slight hop bitterness on finish.

Moderate soft carbonation, medium mouthfeel, drinkable stout.

Served in nonic pint glass at Black Rabbit pub.

Dark espresso color with light brown two finger head, dissapting to form sufficient lace. Initial aroma of coffee, leading to malty taste with overtones of cofee and chocolate.

Would definitely order again.

Pours a one finger light brown head that fades quickly leaving traces of lace. Near black color. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Roasted coffee nose. Starts as sweet roasted coffee and stays that way. Nice chewy stout. $4.25 for a 22oz bottle from the brewery in Troutdale, Or.

It had been years since I’d drunk Terminator and somehow its image had tarnished in my memory. A recent pint at the Spar Café in Olympia served to rekindle the familiarity I’d known from my many encounters at the Bagdad Theater and beyond. My serving came topped with a showy head of tan foam emitting a dry chocolaty aroma. Both the aroma and taste start dry, light, and abundant, but by mid-pint grow less evocative and turn more persuasively towards roast barley. As the dryness wanes and the body reclines, a charred finish steps in for a protracted decay. Moreso that its central taste, it’s the finish that lends a final dignity to Terminator, sealing its flavor with a fine black graininess. Perhaps this is where the beer gets its name. I can’t otherwise imagine why a stout should bear a name suggestive of a bock.

Final tally: still a satisfying standby.
