"The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt."

--Betrand Russell

Sun-splashed orange peel with butternut squash accents and a modest-sized lid that is somewhere between ecru and ivory in color. The featureless foam shrinks without fanfare, leaving the pint glass virtually untouched. Not a rousing start.

The aroma doesn't impress in either a positive or a negative direction. It features mildly sweetened toasted grains... and that's about it. Maybe the brewers should have added more than a 'hint of hops'.

Amber Ale is just about as exciting on the taste buds as its name would suggest. Not the Trouble Brewing part, but the Amber Ale part. No major missteps doesn't make up for an absence of positives. Looks like we might get average scores right down the line.

Even though there isn't an abundance of barley, the flavor profile is malt-dominant. Then again, what should one reasonably expect at only 4.7%. It tastes like the malts include pale, crystal and Munich. There's a balancing amount of hop flavor and bitterness, but the former isn't distinctive enough for guesses to be made. Nothing starting with 'C' though.

A cleaner yeast strain (or more talented brewers) and more hops would have helped. The mouthfeel is decent for the ABV. It doesn't descend into wateriness on the finish and the carbonation is neither too lazy nor too boisterous.

The trouble with Trouble Brewing Amber Ale is not that the negative side of the ledger only has a few entries, it's that the positive side is... <crickets chirping>. Sorry, this World Brews brew is not worth your trouble. Not even at $1.50 for a single.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #33 (Oct 2009):

Marketed as a "craft beer" that uses "the choicest hops, cereal and the finest barley malt." A reminder that this is a beer, we guess.

Clear amber with some lacing from the active carbonation, an easy target for all. Added caramel in the nose? Crisp malt bite, thin up front start to finish, but the flavor is there. Dry, dusty husk and a quick splash of caramel that adds a sweet element. Aside from bitterness, the hops are set on mute. Clean with a light husky aftertaste.

For an easy-drinking, run-of-the-mill Amber Ale, the price points need to be there, mean- ing this has to be one of those $4.99 six-packs or the value won't be there.

Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is not real good. I get some earthy hops as well as some grain notes. The flavor is grain and earthy hops. The beer is very sweet. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

This case of beer caught my eye at Sam's Club because of it's low cost and the fact the beer is advertised as a small batch craft brew. I love trying new craft beers, so I thought "why not"!

Color - The beer poured crystal clear with a very light amber tone. Medium off-white head dissolved quickly with no lacing.

Aroma - Sweet malty scent with a hint of light hops.

Mouthfeel - Pretty heavily carbonated. Crisp and very easy to drink.

Flavor - Pretty light inital taste. Sweet but watery. The flavor really kicks in once it hits the back of your pallet. Malty brown sugar is present, along with a very mild trace of hops.

For an amber, this beer is very easy to drink. It's a bit light for my taste, at least if I was in the mood for an amber. Although it tastes like an amber, it drinks like a red lager. Will do well on a hot day.

This is a contract brewed beer made exclusively for Sam's Club. I've only seen it in cases of 18 12oz bottles for $18.99 a case, so they basically run about $1.05 per bottle.

The beer pours a perfectly clear light brown amber color that makes about a 1½ finger off-white head that fizzes down to nothing in about 30 seconds. Mine left no lacing whatsoever.

The beer has a light malt and sweet brown sugar smell to it and not much else.

Sweet, malty flavor, maybe caramel malt, but nothing else. It's really light but highly carbonated. Overall it's a pretty simple beer. Very easy to drink with mild alcohol (just 4.7%), but nothing to get excited about.

Seems this is a Sam's Club exclusive, as a buddy's wife picked up a half case. 12 oz bottle pours a very clear dark golden color with a thick cap of white head. Retention is above average and lacing is plentiful. Decent looking beer, but a bit light in color.

Smell is a bit of sweet caramely malts, but surprisingly sparse. There is quite a bit of melted butter on the nose and not even the faintest whiff of hops.

Taste is a bit on the sweet side without much hop balancing. Creamed corn and butter flavors are abound. Has a bit of a creamy feel to it, similar to Genesee cream ale. Has a few hints of caramel and burnt toast. This is just not a very good beer, I would not recommend this to anyone.

Clear, golden with a fizzy, dirty white head that quickly shrinks to a skim and leaves a few blobs of lace on the glass. The aroma is sweet green apple and herbal hop notes. This is a lame excuse for a "small batch craft beer" as denoted on the label..pretty much what I would expect from a Sam's club/Wal-mart house brand. Sweet and adjuncty with green apple skin, buttery popcorn and faint herbal hop bitterness. Watery and highly carbonated. This is a pretty bad beer.

12 oz. can - part of variety pack:

Pours bright copper with a thin fizzy head. A little lacing sticks.

The smell is of steely caramel with a light earthy tone. Mild.

The taste is of sweet caramel with some melon. The body is on the thin side. Abrupt finish with some fizz.

It's okay to decent. A mild, basic, malt-leaning amber ale with just enough balance to keep it from being too sweet.

It's very inexpensive. Picked it up at Walmart.

Not a bad basic cheap amber ale.

Poured from the bottle clear amber gold with half inch of rich off-white head.

Sweet malty aroma with light grain notes.

The taste is overly sweet malts and not much else.

Lighter bodied and we with a bland carbonation.

Nothing special here. Just your average amber.

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and good lacing. Smells of spicy hops, adjunct, pale malt, grass, and a hint of earthy malt. Fits the style of an American Amber / Red Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of pale malt, adjunct, hint of spicy hops, slight ,and caramel malt. Overall, good appearance, decent feel, but body, blend, and aroma are dominated by adjunct.

Poured light amber/red with one-two fingers of off white head that dissipated quickly.

Nose started with trace of sweet malt. Taste was overly sweet, malty, off-balanced with very little hop. The whole beverage was off. I found it hard to finish.

Purchased as an 18 pack at a wholesale club purely based on 'a something different' whim. Bad decision. I still have 12 bottles as my friends will accept no more.

12oz can served cold into a pint glass. Thanks to the Zeds for enjoying this on Mothe's Day. Review from notes.

Appearance - Clear amber colored brew, not much head or retention. Maybe a three quarter finger head is poured which burns away quickly.

Smell - Some graininess initially with a lot of neutral aromas, there's not really a whole lot going on here.

Taste - Grainy flavors, mild bitterness. Not a lot of intensity of depth here. Passable amber and no off flavors.

Mouthfeel -Medium-bodied, good carbonation.

Overall - Pretty non-descript, but a drinkable amber with nothing off-putting.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a very small, tan head. It smelled of toasted caramel and sweet maltiness. Very malty and sweet. Not much bitterness.

Of all these WallyWorld "craft" brews, this is the best, but that's not saying much. Taste like a huge brewer decided to make a craft beer. Lacks overall in every way. Still, better than bud, mill, coor's! Good for the price if you can't spend $9.99/ 6 pack.
12 pack of mixed was $12. And change.

Appearance
Kind of amber colored, but almost more of a blush color; kinda wimpy looking for the style; no real head formation and certainly no retention

Smell
A little sweet but also kind of DME-y--vegetal smell I get off macro lagers

Taste & Mouthfeel
Light and clean beer; not a whole lot of flavor through front and mid-palate, some flavor comes in the finish of sweetness kind of like light brown sugar or honey or light syrup; just the faintest touch of hops; crisp texture and light body; goes down easily

Overall
An extremely light amber ale. Good intro beer for beginners and could be really enjoyable on a hot day, but a little too light for my liking.

Tasted from a 12 oz can that was part of a Trouble Brewing mixed 12-pack.

Bright copper to light amber color is exceptionally clear. Head is off-white and virtually non-existent. Bready malt with some darkfruit and just a tiny hint of roasted grain in the aromas, with no hops or yeast character. Flavor are vaguely grainy with only a bit of graham cracker sweetness that seems to come from caramel malt. No hops or other flavors. Medium body; moderate to light carbonation; light hops bitterness.

Overall a drinkable but forgettable amber ale.
