16 oz can
Poured clear but very dark brown, with a good head. Spotty foamy left on the glass. Relatively light bodied for style, with medium carbonatin.

Aroma: nice (near 4), roasty smell with a touch of toffee and dark fruit. Some alcohol esters.

Flavor: good, near neutral, sweet/bitter balance. A touch of dark fruit and caramel. Mildly bitter finish with some coffee in the aftertaste.

O: a light, chocolately porter. Cheap and decent quality. Should appeal to fans of brown ales which it resembles.

First taste was the best, then not all that great. A touch of coffee and chocolate over dull barley grains. Yeast added a slight twang to it. Alchohol was definitely there for being 6.5%, but not necessarily in a bad way. Carbonation was a bit on the high side, but it was definitely a beer I could stomach. I'm pretty sure the can was over a year old (the four pack was marked down to $5 and they are 16oz cans and it looked like julian code, it was either 2012 or 2013). Not a bad beer overall though.

A: Deep dark brown in the glass, a lighter brown as it pours, with a nice tan head on top.

S: Caramel, and brown sugar with some raisins.

T: Caramel and some light brown sugar. Fairly tame, a little bit of a roasted flavor, and it tastes like an English yeast strain. Fairly subdued flavors, but easy drinking and approachable for someone who may be new to dark beers.

M: Medium to medium light in feel, the carbonation is a little more active than I would like in a porter. Not sure if that is an attempt to be more marketable for a wider range of palettes.

O: Overall a decent porter, nothing spectacular but nothing glaringly bad. Fairly drinkable, although a little bit of a yawner.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass

A: dark almost black

S: very very faint malty smell

T: mostly malt with hints of...coffee? It's a bit hard to make out

M: I bit thin fir a porter but it does well to coat the palate

O: Most likely a one time buy, but one I'm glad I tried

Sampling last night on 4/6/14. From the World Brews in Rochester, New York. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees in my beer cooler and poured into a brandy snifter.

Pours a pitch black in color as you can't see through it at all. A very thin off-white head is seen that settles down to just around the glass for the drink. Some spotty lacing is seen but not a lot. The aroma is of roasted malts and coffee beans. Taste is about the same with a nice roasted malt flavor mixed in with some black coffee. The coffee is not over powering at all unlike some porters. Perfect carbonation which as most porters, is below the norm. Perfect actually. No harsh or bitter aftertaste at all. Overall a great porter

One more by World Brews...

Poured a deep ruby red, pretty clear. One thing this "brewery" gets right is the appearance of their beers. They all look the part.

Aroma on this one isn't all bad. it's very, very faint, as are most from this brewery. But what I can pick up is a bit of roasty malt, just as it should be. I'm crossing my fingers that the aroma carries over into the flavor.

Aaaand it doesn't. Again. Not terrible this time. Just really mild. There is a slight cocoa up front, followed by a tinge of bitterness that could be from hops or roasted malts. It kills the effect by fading to a really odd, sour aftertaste. But not soapy, so there's that! The flavor is weak, coming on slowly then running away quickly. Nothing robust about this. It's not off, no soap, no metal, just not good.

Very thin and watery mouthfeel, which plays into the flavor leaving so quickly after each drink. Should be a bit more substantial for the style.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the last thing I currently have in my refrigerator that was put together by World Brews and their contract breweries. It's far and away the best one, and it still doesn't pass muster. It's not bad, but with scores and scores of much better options, it's best to pass this one by and pick up a good beer. Why waste time or money on something like this?

Reddish brown color. Not the best porter I've had. It was worth a shot as its a relatively new brand I've seen at the local grocery. It doesn't have enough of the dark taste as I like. The coffee/chocolate tastes that are characteristics of a lot of Porters that I love.
