Took a trip out to the Grafton Ale House to give it a whirl.

Well a brew is a brew pub in my eyes. They really can change it up much to give it a unique twist. It is what it is. A restaurant with a decent bar that focuses on good beer. This place is no different.

Large open space plenty of seating. Huge wooden wrap around bar. Nice outdoor patio next to the river.

The beer selection is the same as the location in Milwaukee. It was hot so I ordered a wit. The beer was tasty the food was even better. Soft pretzels with sharp cheddar cheese sauce and coarse ground mustard. Awesome. Huge burger completely smothered in gorgonzola and topped with bacon. Spectacular.

The server was prompt and friendly.

Overall a nice if typical brewpub.

Another downtown institution of sorts, the Milwaukee Ale House is a fine brewpub to visit if you are downtown. Situated right on the river, it allows for some roofed patio seating that can be quite peaceful despite its close proximity to downtown. The interior is full of polished blond wood and a large bar area that often features live music (the Ale House is known for live jazz shows). I have enjoyed a number of meals there that are above average in quality as well as price, but the beer is consistently good and that is a fine reason to go. I have had some good and some bad service, but I don't frequent the place enough to draw any serious conclusions about it. The Ale House is worth a trip if you are downtown and looking for a quality brewpub.

The newly added location of the Milwaukee Ale House. Smack on the river in downtown-ish Grafton. Depends what downtown is to you.

We got parking right in front of the door and strolled in around 4:30 ish I think. People slowly started to trickle in.

Instantly I loved the place. It's raw wood everywhere is very well designed. As you step in, there is a stair set that goes up to the second level (didn't go up) and a part of the dining area straight ahead. The bar was to the right so we went over there. It's an "L" shaped bar with a 1/4 circle at the bend in the "L". Very similar to the downtown location.

A big circle area that mirrors the bar behind with taps coming out of it. Lots of their beers on tap and nothing else (that I saw). We were served instantly and the service was good. I would go as far as to give it a 5 but the main person serving us (not our original bar tender) was an old friend from a long time ago and we got free beer so that kind of skews it.

The variety of their beers was good and everything was fresh. We split (after I rated a brew) a giant plate of chicken nachos. Very nice. Overall the atmosphere was awesome.

Two awesome things to point out: 1) Right on the river. The bar faces the river and there are two balcony's that feature outdoor seating. Win! and 2) I don't know how to describe them, but there are very industrial metal, thin wood, and gear adorned shades for the windows by the river. They are mounted on tracks so people blasted in the face with sunlight can crank a shade over to their table. Totally cool.

Price is good. $5 for a pint is standard, especially when it's good beer, not BMC stuff.

Definitely worth checking out if you find yourself in the area.
