At the time of this review, this is the #8 saison on the top saisons list on Fun, bottle obtained by in laws at the release party, shared post Zwanze day 2011 with friends. I was worried that this beer was pure homerism but it is not, lived up to the hype.

Beer is yellow and clear with a big white head, soft, nice lacing, good carbonation.

Aroma is sweet, floral, honey, grains, good yeast nice.

Beer is light and fluffy on the palate, sweet and clean good body, nice feel, great mildly dry finish, overall a nice beer and I'd have more.

Big thanks to Humbard for breaking out this delicious saison last Saturday after the Zwanze 2011 festivities at Churchkey. Served in a Val-Dieu chalice.

Pours a nice yellow-golden color with a nice white head. Good retention and a bit of lacing on the way down. The nose starts off with a bit of straw and light spice before heading in a very fruit direction. Nice notes of pear and apple with a bit of some stone fruits. Delicate and subtle, but quite nice.

The flavor mixes the fruit and yeast spice quite well. Excellent balance and beauty in the individual components as well. Slight bitterness after a light-medium body. Crisp carbonation and a faint fruitiness through the finish. Really superb.

Bottle #254 hand written on the side of the bottle...pretty cool

"Caution: Cut cork then use wine opener"...this is new to me!

...ended up being quite an ordeal to open, but that's okay, it built up some anticipation

A-cloudy dark yellow with a nice thick white head.

S-very aromatic! smells like tart citric peel and corn. smells really good! strong scent.

T-best saison i've ever had. in and out this is such a smooth drink. it comes in with a very mellow taste of slightly tart pale belgian malts and cooked corn. Before the after-taste there's a slight bitterness that quickly vanishes. The after-taste is quite complex with spicy pale belgian malts and sweet fruits. there's a subtle tartness that sticks to the tongue. this is good.

M-high but creamy carbonation with a creamy finish

O-wow this is a great saison. i've never had a belgian style that was this smooth, let alone a saison this smooth. it tastes so good. a 750 mL bottle isn't enough for one person! i'm impressed with the drinkability and the higher ABV as well. this just needs to be cheaper!

Thanks for sharing this, Jacob.

A: The beer pours a pale yellow color with a rather large white head.

S: Not a bad nose. A bit funky with a little bit of feet and lemon grass, but otherwise some more typical aromas with lemon, pear, apple, and pepper. A touch of coriander as well as some pale bready malts.

T: The flavor is slightly sweet and malty, but there is a lot of fruit to it. Apples, pears, and lemons are the most prominent, and there is a touch of pepper and ginger. A mild yeastiness as well.

M: Medium bodied with a medium to high carbonation.

O: Surprisingly nice. Quite light and refreshing.

Recommended by clerk in McK's in Daytona Beach, FL. 750ml bottle served in Hoegaarden tumbler.

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow. Clarity improves tremendously after sitting for a few minutes. Fluffy, bright white head. Very similar in appearance to a wit, just a bit darker. Attractive.

S: Very fresh floral aroma. Slightly yeasty. Underlying spiciness. White pepper. Pleasant, if somewhat muted, overall.

T: Delicate lightly sweet flavors. Yeast and spice. Green apple skin and pear. Slightly drying in mid palate and sweet in the finish.

M: Soft carbonation. Creamy feel. Medium body.

O: Quite nice. I wasn't impressed initially, but this one grew on me. Solid, American brewed Saisons aren't terribly plentiful, but this is a good entry in the category. If you have an opportunity give this a try.

My first offering from Swamp Head and it's a good one. At $19 a bottle it isn't cheap, but I am glad I had a chance to try it. I figured I wouldn't get many chances to try something from this mostly draft only brewer in the future.

Bottle number 337 thanks to mntlover's trip to Florida. Pours a cloudy golden yellow body with a small white head that falls into a lasting cap.

Exquisite aroma. Lime zest, clover honey, white grapes, earthy yeast, ripe Granny Smith apples, and a spicy component of white pepper and coriander.

Light medium body has a prevailing dryness. Moderate carbonation.

Taste opens very citrusy, with lemon pulp and lime zest notes but honey drenched summer green apple hints balance nicely. A hint of coriander underneath and a pleasant yeast character make for a complex and very tasty experience.

Excellent saison by any standards.

Picked this one up thanks to the beer guys recommendation at Grassroots in Jacksonville, bottle number 330, thank you for the recommendation.

Pours a hazy golden color with just a touch of peach added to make it glow. Nice off white head falls slowly to scum and leaves some lace behind.

Aroma is nice sweet malts definite honey noted adding to sweet nectar like smell. Nice fruit notes pear, white grapes, tangerine to round out fruits. Under the sweet and wonderful fruit lays the spice and light tartness or hopefully funk.

Taste is a touch of the sweet honey and malt sweetness, but its swept away quickly. Tart and fruity pear moving toward tart lemon with big doses of spice clove, coriander. Then the yeast kicks in nice earthy notes then funk that linger with spice for a great finish.

Mouthfeel is good enjoyable light medium with just right amount of pep to bring out fruit and spice as needed.

Overall very enjoyable, next time I'm in Florida this brewery goes on my list with Cigar City as stuff i need to bring back home. Picked two up one for me and one for friend, hope I can keep my hands off of it for his sake.

An outstanding farmhouse ale from the emerging Gainesville brewery. It pours a golden straw color, with fruitful notes of banana and other citrus complimented by sweet malt, honey, and peppery spices with a semi dry finish. There’s a hint of rye in the backbone as well, and this ale has a nice zesty character throughout. The brewery’s best offering to date.

Taking a break from packing and cleaning with this beautiful beer. Nice light golden to dark straw color with a huge fluffy white head. Nice lacing hanging out on the glass.

Nice lemon and floral aroma a little bit of a yeast funk as well. Very light and refreshing smell to it. Like a nice shandy or radler with all the lemon.

Taste is right on with the aroma, light refreshing lemon flavor with a little but of fresh cut grass and nice yeast compliment. Some honey flavors coming through as well.

Dry but not puckering mouthfeel with light carbonation. Thin body but the honey flavor keeps it from being watery.

Great saison with lots of character and a great depth to the flavor. An all around beautiful beer.

Bottle # 217. Poured from a 750 into a tulip

A - Golden straw color.

S - Very sweet. Hints of banana and clove. Also hints of some citrus.

T - Fantastic pepper taste. Definitely a lot of clove and banana flavor coming from the yeast. Nice crispness. Extremely balanced. Almost no alcohol come through. A hint of rye as well.

M - Crisp but not too dry. No astringency whatsoever.

O - Overall this is a fantastic saison that stays true to style. I would definitely drink again. This saison stands up to anyone out there. Swamphead definitely knows what they are doing.

hazy medium yellow color came gurgling out of the bottle, quickly coming to a head that reached a height of maybe two inches. There was then a rich coating of side glass lace that thoroughly coated the glass with some nice carbonation being visible throughout the session.

The aroma was highly charged on this one. Lots of light fruit swirling around with a healthy dose of spice in it as well. Nice touches of coriander, lemon, hints of pepper coming through, with a touch of pears warming up to it as it came up to room temperature. The initial taste was peppery, with a rush of lemon following suit almost immediately. A wonderful sense of light fruit really just ran all over this one. I was quite impressed I have to admit. Smooth mouth feel was more the adequately carbonated and really just kept the profile popping throughout. An easy sipper, the moderate ABV lended itself well to a warm late summer evening.

Served from a hand numbered, corked bottle, this was #420.

A: Very bright, yellow/golden in color.

S: Very sweet on the nose, smells almost fruity too like a blue sweet tart. Also a slight spice though I can't place what kind.

T: Very big belgian flavors, banana esters, and light champagne dryness. Not as much spice as I thought there would be considering the bottle says it's a Saison brewed with honey and "spices". Definitely has a nice refreshing saison finish however.

M: Really nicely carbonated, and very champagne-like on the pallet.

O: I found this to be a very pleasant offering by Swamphead Brewery. A nice light summer saison to enjoy when it's unbearably hot down here in Florida. Easy to drink, and the alcohol is not overwhelming either.

Poured from a 750 to a tulip glass.

Aroma - Tons of yeast character. Peppery, citrus and tropical fruit, pear and apple. Low spicy and earthy hop aroma. Light Pils malt sweetness in the background. Can't keep my nose out of the glass.

Appearance - Pale gold with a slight haze. Huge thick moussy white head that won't quit. Continuous streams of bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass.

Taste - Just like the aroma. Lots of yeast character as both spice and fruit. Quite peppery, a character I like in Saisons. Some tartness, but stops well short of sour. Medium high hop bitterness. Light Pils malt graininess and a low alcohol sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Crisp, dry, and tart. Medium-high carbonation adds a prickly sensation. Low alcohol warmth. Very thirst-quenching.

An outstanding example of the style. The best of the Swamp Head beers I've had to date. Can't wait for the next release.

Swamp Head's Saison du Swamp is a wonderful summer beer, balancing dryness from rye and grains of paradise with lots of very pleasant and complex fruit esters. The appearance is wonderful as well - pours a light golden color with a thick, dense head. In my opinion, this is the best beer this young brewery has produced to date.

2011 version bottled Nov 18, 2011. #361. Pours a cloudy light amber with one finger of fast fading white head. Smell: semisweet pale malt, bread dough, tart plum, mild barnyard note, peppery and slightly grassy. Taste: tangy, wheat cracker with honey-ish sweetness, then into pepper, biscuit, finishing fruity and spicy. This is more interesting than 2010's, and not as dry. Pretty fantastic. 3/4.5/4.5/4/4.5

Corked and caged. Thanks for the sticker about how to get the champagne cork out, very considerate. Pours a hazy straw color with three fingers of styrofoamy white head, settles slowly, leaving a sheet of sticky lace. Smell: pale malt, hay, bready, grassy and spicy. Taste: sweet pale/pils malt, bready, grainy, grassy, and pretty spicy, with a very slight dried sugared pineapple component to the finish (from honey?). Lightish medium body, nice carb with a semi-dry finish. Seemed like a fairly standard approach to the style, but a very nice example. Bottle 523. (2010). 4/4/4.5/4/4

Tasted on draft at the brewery.

Pours golden with a nice tight white head. Smells of yeast and a little fruit. Light to med bodied with some very nice typical Saison flavors, plus an added spiciness which gives it a nice complexity. ABV is a little high for a Farmhouse Saison at 7.6, but this beer hides it very well.

Overall a very nice Saison from Swamp Head.
