Very enjoyable Porter. Pours a dense brown color from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Ruby red highlights throughout the glass. Big light brown head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma is roasted malt coffee and a little chocolate. Flavor is more of the same but more pronounced. Good solid Porter flavors. Mouthfeel is fery good. Rich, a little finishing bitterness but mostly a creamy, smooth finish, helped by the oats. If you are in the mood for a Porter, this one does not disappoint.

L: Pours brilliant dark brown with ruby highlights under a 1” light tan foam collar that is moderately persistent and lacy.

S: Light chocolate aromas mingle with traces of spice and oatmeal. Malt aromas are medium to medium high, hop aromas are low.

T: Malt with some chocolate that moves towards dark bitter towards the finish. Light roast flavors with some grain. Nothing harsh or burnt.

F: Very silky, velvety and creamy with a medium to medium full body and medium fine soft carbonation. Has a nice oat texture.

O: Flavorful, fulfilling and easy to drink.

August 2013 bottling I picked up at the brewery last year (from their cooler and placed in my fridge till now.) Poured into a tulip appears black in color with a light khaki cap that fades quickly to a thin line of head.

Smells roasty and milk-chocolate like with some earth, coffee and minerals.

Taste is dry and roasty with earth, coffee, light char, bakers cocoa and citrus/mineral edge. Mild dark fruitness like raisony alcohol then back to chocolate flavors.

This is a dry, light bodied brew with ample carbonation. Overall a decent, above average oatmeal stout. Id never guess this bottle was 2 years old.

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. Label says Bottled On: 090914

A- Pours a mostly opaque black color with a 1/4 inch light tan head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a small center patch of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a solid ring behind.

S- Dark roasted malt brings to mind chocolate and coffee. Definitely on the sweeter side.

T- Not as sweet as the aroma with the roastiness providing more of a bitter chocolate quality.

M- Kind of thin, even for a porter. Medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- Starts off nice but the thinness in the mouthfeel and only slightly above average flavors keep this one in the "Just OK" range.

Comes out of the growler a rich, warm sable that lets daylight in only at the very bottom and has a very thick, fluffy and persistent tan head. Aroma has notes of roast malt, coffee and licorice. Flavor has a malty core and notes of chocolate, coffee and licorice with a dusty hint of oatmeal. Smooth texture does not have very robust body, but fizz level is good. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Six from Total Wine in Winston-Salem. Not as smoth as you'd expect from an oatmeal beer, but good.
