It is a black beer with a dark creamy chestnut head that reaches one inch before receding to a thin veil. Lacing forms a fine coating that breaks up into patchy clouds.

The Antiek snifter focuses rich chocolate brownies against a backdrop of sweet dark roasted coffee. Also revealed is plum pudding, light bourbon, and deep roasted malt that is almost burned. Warmth draws out vanilla, a touch of Amarillo, and accents of bourbon.

Flavor follows the nose with the roasted qualities being amplified. While it is quite bitter up front, sweetness builds from the middle and late into a long finish. Warmth brings out faint smokiness and a suggestion of anise.

The thick full body has a texture of combed wool that is a bit slick. Alcohol is powerful just short of warming. Fine carbonation throughout.

This is a solid Imperial Stout, worthy of the adjective "imperial". This beer deserves to be enjoyed slowly with someone you love.

Super dark beer with a nice creamy tan head that leaves a curtain of lacing as it recedes. The aroma is coffee and chocolate with fresh oak and vanilla. The taste is sweet with a lot of wet oak, there is also coffee and chocolate. The oak is a bit astringent but overall this is a great beer.

'14 Vintage
look: Very dark, nearly opaque brown. Some cola highlights when held to light. Impressive mocha head on the pour that reduces to a modest cap. No lacing to speak of, but an oily sheen is left on the glass with each drink.
smell: deep roasty and cocoa. Some coffee, vanilla and bourbon.
taste: the flavors in the nose are there but more subtle. This is a very drinkable, clean, even oxymoronically "light" imply stout. not a ding at all. This is a unique stout. Loads of flavor and a slight boozy finish but as drinkable an imp stout as you'll find.

2015 vintage

L - Pours a thick black coffee body with an espresso tan head one finger head. The small carbonation bubbles give way to great lacing and retention on the head.

S - Roasted malts, dark chocolate and mild coffee to start out. Bourbon notes with vanilla and oak come on afterwards.

T - Great balance between the roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate with the bourbon, vanilla and oak.

F - Medium bodied and medium carbonation. To my liking, the body seems a bit thin.

O - Such a balanced beer. Definitely a treat.

Massive carbonation fires right out the bottle. Pours awesome though, not infected! Black, 3/4" beige head. Aroma of chocolate malt, chocolate-dark, some bourbon, very faint.

Taste brought more bourbon, mouthfeel was super chewy. Lots of roast, chewy, brings some oak. Carbonation above average, not a problem.

This was what I think of when I say a very good bourbon barrel stout, impressed.
