De Hipercor. En copa Grimbergen. Viendo The OA 2x01. Mas que tripel una belgian strong pale ale, con claro caracter belga aunque se le echa en falta algo mas de sabor, resultando algo plan gustaa

Looks very much like a Duvel in the my Duvel glass. super bright but a little darker than Duvel from my memory, golden rather than yellow. great foam just a little below the rim of the glass. lacing, fine foam and loads of fine carbonation.
Nose is a bit more expressive than Duvel with esters and phenols from the Belgian yeast. leaning to the fruity side. like pears in sirup with some spices e.g. cloves (stoofperen, if you know what I mean). However, aroma is clean, restrained and nothing like in a Tripel.
Taste is follows nose with some sweetness and not so dry like Duvel. But still the hops come through in a Duvel-like fashion.
Evervescent beer with a burpiness factor.
This beer clearly aimes to play in the Duvel field, with the "little devil" on the bottle and the colors and artwork, hence I think my extensive comparisons with Duvel sem justified. The difference is that it seems more sweet, shows more esters and is less dry which indeed makes it somehow the devils little friend. To some this may be more attractive than the bone dry original. I like it, but I have to admit that it lacks the incredible drinkabilty of Duvel because of the sweetness.
Final words: Very interesting and perfectly executed variant on Duvel. I am glad that we have met.

A typical belgian Duvel-wannabe. Sounds like one (Filou (fr) = robber, so a person with devilish manners), looks like one (clear pale yellow with lively carbonation and an excellent head) and smells like one (they seem to have used the same citric smelling hops as brewery Duvel Moortgat). The taste doesn't fulfil its expectations however. It lacks the subtle yet complex balance i expect of a beer in this category. Instead, the taste is just a bit too sour, metallic and boozy for my liking. The sourness also seems to cover other flavours and gives this brew a stingy feeling in the mouth. The hops are doing the best they can, but can't lift this beer's taste above average. An okay beer altogether, but you're way better off with the real thing. Always the real thing.

Pale, clear, with a nice head. Smells like a typical Belgian pale ale, citrus and grains, bread, yeast. Light and dry taste, bitter and refreshing. Not bad.
