Popping the top I get a nutty smell with hints of cocoa and black licorice. Pours to a very dark bronze with a big off-white multi-sized bubble creamy head. Taste is very nutty upfront then sweet with some black licorice in the middle and a semi sweet chocolate finish that is slightly bitter. Very tasty, good cool weather brew, good after dinner brew.

Very German like. Caramel and bready malts. Chocolate and toffee. Sweet and malty. Enjoyable.

Amber red color. Very faint aroma, just some malt sweetness hovering around.
Flavor of piney and floral hops with slightly toasted malts. Mildly sweet with distant notes of cinnamon. Dry and spicy aftertaste that shows up really fast.
Interesting Bock, this one was on draft, it seemed to me much better than the one I tasted before in bottle.

Aroma
Light malt and a bit sweetish, bit more than I expected for this style with some grassiness in there. There's something I don't quite like in the scent but don't know how to describe it.
Appearance
Brownish amber in a stovepipe drinking glass, not exactly beer clean from what I can tell so not sure about commenting on head retention.
Taste
Bit of sweet malt is what I mainly get, no real bitterness comes through. Almost more of fainly sweet scottish ale than a bock. If you're grading to style it doesn't seem like it should fare well although this is a pretty good beer.
Drinkability
6.0% abv so nothing over the top, no real cloying flavors so easily sessionable to me.
Overall
This may be my favorite of the apostol beers I've had (dubbel and weizen also) but if you're grading to being style appropriate this doesn't seem to be there to me and is more reminiscent of a watered down scottish ale with less sweetness.
