My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Cedar Crest B&B which because of my expert planning just so happens to be across the street from App Vinter :). It can be easy to miss this place from the street but it is def worth seeking out when in Asheville. We had the pleasure of meeting Charles and Geoff (two brothers) over the course of the weekend and they couldn't be nicer guys. They are in a big warehouse and have a great beer selection and from what I saw, nice wines also. Most of the beer is on shelves/stands at room temp but organized nicely. There is a cooler with single bottles as well as a nice bar with 4 rotating taps. Their glass selection is one of the best in NC. I have always enjoyed the "other" shop downtown and think they do a great job but you are missing out if you dont take time to stop by the Vintner, you wont feel rushed or crowded and its a great addition to the Asheville Beer Scene! Viva la Vinter!

Appalachian Vintner ROCKS!

They are about to expand to 12 taps. You can drink in the store in super comfy chairs and hang out awhile. Their Glassware was impressive – much much more than any other place in town by far! Beer selection almost as good as others but prices were noticeably and considerably lower across the board. Expansion plans will just solidify being number 1 in Asheville!

Very Friendly Owners who are Very Supportive to Beer Geeks

They've moved up closer to the road since I've last visited. Nice shop with great presentation and good content. And the prices seem better then the prime shops in the Triangle. More wine than beer but plenty to search through. Great service. Well worth a stop while you're heading into downtown.

Wonderful store. Went there around 11 on a Wednesday morning. The dog was there as mentioned before. Met Charles, the owner. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Let me sample all four taps (Rabid rabbit porter, Pisgah pale ale, and 2 other NC beers). The selection was good but not overwhelming. I still spent $60+ there. Had all the local NC beers (Foothills, Olde Hickory, Highland, Pisgah, RR) and a variety of other beers from around the country. You can buy whatever you want and drink it there. Great place. I would definitely go back.

upon first walking in it was a massive store as far as beer goes. everything was spread out to maximize the space. the service is good and laid back, mainly because there was noone else in the store but us. the store has a great selection of local breweries with pisgah, olde hickory, and foothills making a good showing. this was all i went into the store for, and i was not dissapointed. the prices are good too. if you want something in the asheville area that bruisin ales doesnt have then this is the place to go. also the glassware selection is huge. go there.

I just went into this place yesterday. I previously thought it was just a wine shop until the guys at the Thristy Monk recommened it. I am so glad I took the chance because this is my new place. Great selection from some of my favorite microbrews (Great Divide, Dogfish, etc)... and some great local brews too. Also some stuff that I hadn't seen anywhere else in Asheville. The service was great. I love the folks at Brusin Ales but Appalachian Vintner has them beat with prices. The owner offered to do special orders as well. Nice, relaxed store, awesome dog greets you at the door. Check these guys out. I want them to be around for awhile!

New to the Asheville area so I've been making my way around to all the beer related areas. At first glance it was difficult to tell if I had the correct place, but as soon as I walked in it was clear I found it. At first I thought there was only locals to choose from, but found a second section of beer along the other wall. Pretty good selection, I was able to snag the last of their Terrapin WNB. Service was great both times, being greated as I entered and offered help walking around. Check it out if you're in the area.

Made the stop into Appalachian Vintner on a recent trip to Asheville, and was very impressed! The place is a little tough to find and I was a little weary since it looked like an old warehouse, but was very impressed upon walking in. They had a great selection of brews, along with wine. The service was very helpful and the prices were much better than Bruisin Ales. They had what seemed to be the only remaining Pisgah Valdez and Vortex II, along with all kinds of goodies. Even had Black Ops and Hopslam when I was in there. I will definately be frequenting this place, and i recommend everyone to do the same!

This is my most visited shop in Asheville. It's really more of a wine store but they have a good amount of beer as well. Especially recently, the two brothers that own the place seem to be getting more and more into beer.
The selection is not jaw dropping but they definitely cover enough bases to make it my regular store, and the quality of what they stock is always great. What they don't stock, they will always get for me if it's available to them, they even buy cases of stuff I ask for even when I only want a couple bottles. They are always on point when it comes to keeping their customers happy.
The store has 4 taps and about 8 seats at a nice little bar and Geoff and Charles will hang out and talk beer or wine with you. Next to the bar are a few nice tables and some big, comfy leather chairs so you can grab a pint and relax while you ponder what you might buy. The taps are usually a couple locals and something special. Right now they have Duck Rabbit Baltic Porter, Pisgah Pale and fresh SCULPIN,,,,This is the second keg of Sculpin they've had and this is a market where Sculpin really does not show up in much. The big ass friendly old dog that greets you and the fact that there is a sweet little lounge area in a great store earns the Vintner a 5 for atmosphere in a bottle shop.
Prices are on par with other stores in town except for Bruisin Ales which is very pricey. I buy kegs from these guys every few weeks and the prices are as good or better for barrels than Hops n Vines, which is also one of my go-to's.
Overall this is my favorite shop in town. Charles is working on building a beer engine that will be put to use at some point in the future and at that point I may never go anywhere else.

Went into this place for the first time recently and was amazed. I was greeted at the door and when they learned that it was my first time there, the guy offered me a pour of Hopslam and walked me around the store, discussing what was new and good. It's a wine store as well, so the beer selection is not as good as stores dedicated to beer, but it still had a better selection than nearly every other beer store in Asheville. The selection of local beers was pretty good as well, though they didn't have many of the growler-only beers from Craggie, Green Man, Catawba Valley, etc. Prices were also quite good and cheaper than most places in the city.

All-in-all, a very good beer store and it's my new first stop whenever I make a beer run to Asheville.

As a local I hate to do this since Appalachian Vintner is a great insiders location where you can now find hard to get selections which sell out quickly elsewhere. Why I'm doing this....the owners are really nice guys with one hell of a store that deserves a visit when you come to Asheville. Appalachian Vintner should deservedly be up there with the very best craft beer stores in the city. Hell, now I'm not going to be able to find a parking space and you guys are going to buy out the hard to find stuff before I get there. Such is life in "Beer City."

First stop on a trip to Asheville this weekend. It was a little hard to find as it was in a the back of a warehouse section off a side street. Upon pulling up you know you are in the right location with wine bottles hanging up like windchimes at the front door. Upon walking in I was greeted by the two gentlemen working the store (brothers/owners). They were really pleasant to talk to and had a huge knowledge and interest in craft beer. The overall appearance of the building is similar to the location it is in with huge open space with shelves and racks throughout the floor. I quickly made my way over to the local section. Very nice local variety going on here! Pisgah, Duck Rabbit, Asheville Brewing Company, and Olde Hickory just to name a few... Also had a refrigerated section next to the local section that housed some of the locals and some Belgians as well. I was then pointed in the direction of the micro/craft beer section. Wow... Very nice layout and selection of single bottles and 4/6 packs. They also have a very nice bar setup where you can enjoy a brew while you shop. They had the Pisgah Pale Ale and Olde Hickory Black Raven Black IPA (I had this one) on tap while I was there. Great location to stop in and shop around. The prices were pretty much spot on for what I've seen else where with some being a little lower than other places. Overall a MUST stop if you are going to Asheville!

wow where has this place beer? i had heard there was this store that did not have the greatest selection, but had everything i might be looking for. that being said i made it a special point to make sure i checked it out on my last trip through town.

I have to say i was blown away by the attention shown towards local brewers. simply amazing here. they had nearly everything in stock from western nc, stuff i had not been able to get in the city (bardstown for example), just a fantastic store. warm and welcoming they were quick to show me anything and everything they had.

overall a must stop, now there are just too many stores to visit on my trips up there, but this is a sure thing.

Just so happened one of my buddies from Nashville told me that he had found this store by mistake and also said it was the best mistake he had ever made (not in his wife's eyes)

Got to go by the store my last trip to Asheville I was greeted by one of the 2 brothers that own the store. He was happy to show me around and give me insight of new beers, brewery's, bars and happenings around town. Also got to see there beer cellar which had some of the greatest beer I have ever seen, verticals of beer dating back 4 or more years.

On the shelf they had 7 of the top 10 beers in the world(Ba)

Others that they have cellared 08's 09,s. Some things I did not even know were made.Local beers on tap 3 total I had Olde Hickory Black Raven IPA and a Pisgah Valdez I think around #16 rated coffee stout in the country. Should be #1 brewed with local coffee all organic. So good so smooth nice head all the way down.

A must stop on the Asheville beer scene.Great Place

Appalachian Vintner is a hidden gem. Before going to Asheville, I used Beerfly to help plan my trip/beercation. Because no one had reviewed Appalachian Vintner, I hadn't put it on my list of stops. Luckily, as fate would have it, I scored 3 x 6 packs of Hopslam here along with a few other selections.

I was in another well known beerstore in town and asked an employee if he had any Hopslam left. He didn't, but he let me know that Appalachian Vintner,a store he frequents, had some the last time he was there. I think this says something about Appalachian Vintner if folks from other beerstores shop here.

To make a long story short, I was able to find Vintner's phone number, but not directions to the store. I dialed them up and spoke to Charles. He confirmed that they had Hopslam in stock and was kind enough to give me directions to his store.

Once I arrived, I was immediatly impressed by the store's atmosphere. It has a large bar to the right as you walk in and a large open space with wine and beer. Charles showed me to the beer selection and made some great recommendations as well as informing me about the local brews.

Because this store is off the beaten path, you'll likely have better luck finding some of the more sought after brews that sell out quicker at other, more frequented locations. If you're someone that values great selection, service and prices, you'll want to add this to your list of stops while in Asheville.
