Very Good
AutocratAutocrat
Notes: Since the 1890's, Narragansett Beer and Autocrat Coffee have been home-grown Rhode Island favorites. This beer is a unique collaboration that brings together Narragansett's bittersweet Milk Stout with dark, delicious Autocrat Coffee. A smooth stout with robust roasted coffee aroma and bittersweet coffee flavor. Notes of toffee, dark chocolate, and roasted barley.

Vessel: Comes in just about the coolest can ever! $8.89 a six
pack of 16 oz cans.

Pours: Don 't know- drank from the can.

Nose: Good coffee.

Taste: A fine coffee stout.

Body: this is its downfall. Bit weak (watery) body wise.

Overall: like it a lot and a super bargain at the price. Have paid a lot more and gotten less. Will drink again.

Poured from a can into a shaker pint, the beer is jet black, with a creamy, dense, dark tan head that doesn't go anywhere. Very nice. Aromas of dark roasted coffee, subtle crème, hints of bittersweet chocolate, and earthy notes. Flavors are pretty heavy roasted coffee forward, rich and bitter, with a highlight of cocoa nibs, subtle crème, and a hint of nut sweetness. Smooth bodied, with dry undertones, this is an easy drinker. The aftertaste has more of the milky sugar notes, with coffee and chocolate still blending together nicely. Smooth, slightly dry finish, with a solid bitter and roasted linger. This is a well balanced, solid brew.

Light bodied is my only complaint. But $10 for a 6 pack of tall boys, it's a winner

On-tap 1/7/2014 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI served in a tapered mug glass.

A: The beer is a deep black color, with a large beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is all black toasted coffee beans and roasted malts.

T: The taste starts out with a smoky coffee bean flavor that is quickly followed by a hearty roasted malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly smoky.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is very dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, as the name implies it’s a strongly-flavored coffee beer and it’s a very good one.

Pours a black color or a very dark brown, with a huge pillowy, fluffy light brown head. The head slowly dissipates leaving webby lacing and a puffy cap.

The aroma is of brown bread malt, perhaps some toasted pumpernickel. A nice dose of cold coffee. Good woody earthy aroma.

The taste is of coffee and wet wood. Very good earthy flavor. Not much in the roast but the beer has a nice toasted dark bread flavor. Not overly sweet considering it is a milk stout. A bit of char in the finish.

The feel is quite light for a stout. Kinda light in general. Starts sweet on the palate but has a bit of a roasted coffee bitterness. Dry in the finish.

This is a very good "stout". My only knock is that it really isn't a stout, more of a porter at best. Great coffee flavor.

16 oz can poured into a wheat glass.

Appearance
Black with 1 finger of tan head. Slight ruby highlights.

Nose
Coffee grounds, medium roast coffee & cream, milk chocolate, caramel, and vanilla.

Taste
Medium roast coffee & cream, and milk chocolate. Caramel and roasted barley.

Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, creamy, smooth, and sweet.

Overall
This is exactly what it should be. An easy drinking Milk Stout with plenty of coffee flavor.

A -Rich black pour with a thin cola colored head. Spotty lacing.

S - Mild coffee smell. Some smoke is noted. Has a milk chocolate scent like Yoo-Hoo.

T - Flavors of lactose, mild coffee, dark malts, and ends with a bit of smoke. Some acidity in the finish as well.

M - Has a dry finish and light body. Easy to drink, but somewhat tiring at the end.

O - Decent milk stout. A great changeup from a coffee porter as a nice coffee flavored beer that is easy to drink. Pair this with jalapeno poppers or a similar spicy appetizer.

Poured from a pint can.

No immediate coffee on the nose. Coffee becomes apparent after several sips. Good, but if it hadn't been labeled a coffee milk stout, it might have gone almost unnoticed.

Much, much drier than most Milk Stouts I've tasted. To me, it's more like a dry stout, with a hint of coffee.

Lacks the round creaminess of other beers in the style.

I may have been spoiled by the coffee imperial stouts...but this is just too dry for the after dinner/dessert-ish beer I thought I was getting.

Maybe skip the lactose, and just call it a dry coffee stout.

Pours a dark brown/black with a brown head with a good amount of retention to the carbonation. The smell is full of coffee and espresso with some sweetness, dark chocolate scents coming through. The taste was full of coffee flavors with an undercurrent of sweet milk chocolate. Very tasty and makes a hell of an after dinner beer.
