This beer is a unique collaboration between two iconic Rhode Island companies. A custom blend of Narragansett’s bittersweet milk Stout with dark, delicious Autocrat Coffee makes for a delightful beer that is more Rhode Island than Roger Williams himself. A great affordable stout, looks great in the glass and tastes good on a cold night in New England.

This is a great sweet stout. Right on the mark.

Big rocky brown head over a very deep deep brown beer, perfect. Smells of toasted barely - an honest, genuine, clean smell you are very happy to meet. Then it just slips down like milk chocolate with a great dark chocolate finish. The mouth is a touch syrupy, but its darn near perfect overall. The long lingering flavor is of coffee and it is mild and pleasing.

This is a new high mark for 6-packed sweet/milk stouts. Duck Rabbit (Carolina area) makes/made a slightly sour milk stout that is/was really amazing and set the bar for my palate. This meets that expectation. Very satisfying.

I've had several coffee beers, very few make it work, too often this style ends up like bad coffee. This offering puts the coffee in the backseat, letting it work its magic on existing flavors. It really doesn't even need to be mentioned. You could just as well call it a Chocolate Stout, but that's a marketing decision. Chocolate and coffee are close relatives.

I can't fathom why anybody would rate this low, except that maybe the reviewer just doesn't think well of Narraganset lager. I don't like their lager much at all either, but their dark seasonal beers have been OUTSTANDING.

Being a New Englander I absolutely loved this beer, the classic Narragansett taste mixed with roasty coffee, very well done.

This beer puts Narragansett on the map. The beer is full of flavor and feels a lot fuller than what you would expect from a 5.30 ABV. The beer has a nice coffee smell and has a great balance of milk chocolate flavor. The 16 oz bottles in the 6 pack offering at an affordable price makes this my staple beer in December and January. Let's hear it for Narragansett. Hip Hip, Horray; Hip, Hip, Horray!

Once more, we have a CAN courtesy of my local, in-person trader, tone77, who CAN show up on my porch whenever it is CANvenient for him. He brings such great beers and is outstanding about returning the empty CANs for further transfer to Jeff Lebo. Viva The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Made On Honor [-] Sold On Merit"; "A Rhode Island Tradition Since 1890";
"Hi-Neighbor!"; "When Autocrat was started in 1895, founder Frank O. Field was drawn to the word Autocrat, one who rules with undisputed sway. It was then that their most delicious flagship product, Autocrat Coffee, got its name. Throughout the 1900s, 'Gansett and Autocrat were the beverages of choice in New England. We present here our collaborative Coffee Milk Stout, a flavorful and smooth dark ale that pays homage to our shared heritage, while celebrating the art of craft brewing. A swallow will tell you!"

A swallow is likewise depicted on the CAN, but I have better things to CANsider, like Crack!ing it open and CANducting a Glug. The former was loud & the latter was inverted, leading to a pseudo-cascade and three-plus fingers of dense, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with great retention. I watched in fascination as it slowly fell, leaving wonderful lacing in its wake. Color was Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing precisely ZERO light penetration. Nose was not sweet at all! It smelled of coffee, all right - espresso! Rich, smoky, bitter, just the way I like my coffee as a retired sailor. Milk?!? That is if you are having a hot (or warm) mocha milkshake! Me? I'm drinking coffee! Hot & black, just like my women. Ha! Mouthfeel was dense, thick & as if a dollop had been ladled onto my tongue. The taste was very bitter, very much like espresso, with a smoky, coffee-like bite. Milk/Sweet Stout? Hardly. This was more like coffee infused with alcohol, rather than vice versa. Man, it got me to sit up, my heart began racing and my attention was now fully engaged. Phew. It drank much bigger than its ABV would suggest. Finish was dry, bitter and very reminiscent of mess decks coffee. Forget 5-Hour Energy Drink, just have one of these with lunch and see what happens!

16 ounce can in a pint glass
Dark brown color with nice lacing, quickly dissipating head
Definite coffee smell with a touch of sweetness
Coffee is the predominate taste with a milky sweet taste at the end
Good mouthfeel
Another well made brew from Narragansett. Will buy more, for sure.

Pours dark black / Brown with a very lovely tan creamy Head. Smells of toasted Brown bread and rich malts. Taste is very smooth and creamy with hints of brown bread, malts and rich creamy Coffee and Milk flavor. This is an awesome Coffee Milk stout and one I will get an extra case of this week while it is around. I give it a complete rating of 4.5 it is awesome!
