16oz tallboy poured into a pint glass.

A: Dark brown in color. Very creamy-looking tan head retains well at a quarter inch in height. Thin, broken rings of lacing.

S: Spent coffee grounds, mild acidic twang, coffee flavored candy, whiff of dry chocolatey roasted malt, kiss of smoke, nutty, lactose.

T: Nutty and woody at the outset with hints of roast and smoke. Black coffee, spent grounds, and a big acidic coffee twang. Bitter dark chocolate, and then some sweeter chocolate notes for just an instant. A malted milk ball sort of flavor barely pulls through. The finish goes back to burnt coffee, smoke, and acidity.

M: Medium body. Very creamy and marshmallow fluffy in texture. Astringency gets fatiguing. Medium amount of tongue-prickling carbonation.

O: The acidity and astringency really wear on the palate and make it tough to drink towards the end. The sweeter lactose side of things is stifled.

16oz can shared with my girlfriend. Poured into my Night Shift tulip.

Pours the deepest of browns--only a hair away from black--with an imposing two-and-a-half finger khaki head. Head slowly dissipates to approximately a quarter-finger in size but never quite gives up the ghost, remaining for almost all of the duration of consumption. Strongly retentive lacing.

In the nose, notes of vanilla, medium roast, milk sugar, molasses, and bittersweet chocolate. Straightforward but appealing.

In the mouth, roasty coffee and rich chocolate notes on the front of the palate give way to sweet vanilla and milk sugar notes mid-palate. Finishes earthy and slightly dry, with notes of bitter coffee and dark chocolate.

Mouthfeel is a bit of a disappointment, to be honest...smooth and fairly creamy, but also somewhat overly carbonated and a bit thin for the style, which detracts from the overall silkiness of the beer.

On the whole, very solid. Not amazing, not mindblowing, but very, very solid. As a native of Rhode Island, 'Gansett did both themselves and Autocrat proud with this one, and I hope it comes around again.

It's kind of hard to mess up a stout's appearance. This one is nice and black with a khaki head.

There's a mild aroma of roast malts, but I'm not getting much, if any, coffee on this.

The taste is also pretty mild. It tastes like a straight, single stout and that works. It's basically a superior alternative to Guinness and I'd be interested in trying a car-bomb made with the stuff.

This is a great beer for the price.

I like the brown can. Looks vintage.
Pours absolutely jet black witha big dark brown head. Fizzy loose bubbles. The head is almost red at first. Dissipates quickly to a thin head. Exactly like cola but darker inside without the bubbles inside.
Smells like faint chocolate, hints of coffee. Leather and blackstrap molasses. Light aromas.
Taste is very thin. Smooth coffee and cream. Sweet milk chocolate, almost candy like. Not overly sweet but well balances with dark bread malt flavor. Hop bitterness towards the end is earthy and the slightest bit of fresh pine.
Smooth mouthfeel, thinner side of medium bodied.

A really nice beer. Thin at first but grows bolder and more complex. Well balanced. A great drinker or it would be good to put in stew or chili. I'd return when it grows colder.

I saw the promotions for this a few months ago, and immediately started salivating at the thought of it. It lived up to my expectations! The pour has a fantastic appearance - a good dark body (typical of stout) and a rich tan head on it.

The aroma has notes of coffee and a hint of vanilla.

The feeling on this on the tongue is wonderful. The taste starts off with everything good in a stout, and finishes with a surprise taste of chocolate milk. It is reminiscent of the flavors of an Irish Car Bomb.

It is very hard to find (I'm in southeast Massachusetts and find it sold out all over the area) and I'm very disappointed that this is a limited brew. I really hope that the Gansett crew will add this to the family. It's a welcome addition.
