Quality Supreme: The Narragansett Del’s Shandy is the perfect thirst-quenching balance of our gold medal Lager with Del’s lemon concentrate…brewed under the supervision of award-winning Brewmaster Sean Larkin. ‘Gansett’s Lager is the highest rated domestic Lager according to Beer Advocate, while Del’s Lemonade has been Rhode Island’s favorite summer treat for over six decades.

Taste & Enjoy: The ‘Gansett Del’s Shandy has just the right balance of malty sweetness and citrus tartness. The Shandy is the ultimate summertime refresher…one sip leads to another. You might even say that “It’s Refreshingly Different!”

The History: Narragansett’s Famous Lager has been brewed & beloved throughout New England for over 120 years. The first Del’s stand opened in RI in 1948 using an old family recipe brought over from Italy. Since then, both ‘Gansett and Del’s Lemonade have refreshed thousands of happy customers on and around the Rhode Island beaches…and beyond. Now the two flavors are combined to create a most refreshing summertime adult beverage. We hope you love it!

Reviewed under ideal circumstances. On my porch on a hot day. An aggressive pour gave this very yellow beer a three-finger head that lingered for a minute or so. The smell is lemons. Not lemon flavoring, it actually smells like the fruit. The taste is very much the same. Starts with a hit of lemon, zest and all. That goes into some subtle hops that accent it well. The mouthfeel is nice and carbonated. Not my favorite style because it can go wrong so quick, but this one was a pleasant surprise.

16oz can poured into a pint glass.

A: golden colored with a very light haze. Rocky, fine-bubbled white head retains well. Small dots of lacing.

S: Del's frozen lemonade on the nose. Perfect balance of lemony, sweet, and tart. Maybe some subtle grains pulling through.

T: Sugary/tart Del's iced lemonade. Some bready graininess underneath. Maybe a touch of hollow hops. That's about it.

M: Light bodied. Perhaps some wheaty froth? Fine-bubbled, scrubbing carbonation. Very refreshing.

O: This will sell like hotcakes. Narragansett has been very smart with this series of beers. An iconic New England brewery teaming up with other iconic and beloved New England brands. It amplifies the reach and recognition of their brand, especially because they are using soft drinks, which obviously have a broader demographic. Genius. The Autocrat coffee milk stout was a good idea, but this will outsell it by leaps and bounds. The liquid itself is extraordinarily simple, but that's exactly what it should be. It lets the Del's lead and it stays refreshing and crushable. That's all it needed to do; stay true to concept and don't eff it up. This is a gold mine.

Appearance: pale yellow in color, 1 inch head, clear, high carbonation

Smell: lemonade and light ginger

Taste: lemonade and light pilsner malt

Mouthfeel: light bodied, high carbonation, sweet

Overall: An excellent shandy. One's I have had in the past are either too bitter or focus a bit too much on either part. The Del's lemonade is the star of the show and the flavor bursts through. However, the Gansett lager works well with this and you can taste it in the background. The combo works well. I think this may be a new summer favorite.

Appearance: Golden pale wheat color (yellow). Slightly high carbonation (fizzy). Initial 1" head dissipates within 30 seconds.

Smell: Lemons, faint biscuit

Taste: Lemons, sweet but not cloying, just enough biscuity malt to balance, tart.

Mouthfeel: Thin, above average carbonation, watery, slight puckering effect

Overall: As far as a Shandy goes I'd have to say it's far better than a I thought it would be and overall a fine example of the style. A good job was done balancing the sugary sweet Del's with the lager, a tightrope act that could have very easily been disastrous. Not something I could drink much of but one should prove very refreshing on a hot summer day.

Forgot to mention delicious Del's burps, seriously the belches taste exactly like Del's

There's on one place where this beer tastes decent and enjoyable. That is sitting on a beach in July when it is 90 degrees out with full humidity. Besides that this beer is barely tolerable. Yellow lager with a sweet and tart lemonade in it which takes center stage. Nice to have this in a 16 oz can so it is safe for the sand.
