A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden amber in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and moderate golden yellow highlights. The beer has a three finger tall foamy light beige head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering about 85% of the surface of the beer and a tin film covering the remainder with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of cereal grain + grainy malts with light amounts of sweetness. That is followed by moderate aromas of floral, herbal, and earthy hops.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of cereal grain + grainy malts with a light amount of honey-like sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of floral, herbal, and earthy hops which impart a moderate amount of bitterness which fades away slowly.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp.

O: Not significantly different than the original Narragansett Bock, maybe a little hoppier but not significantly so. Enjoyable and easy to drink.

A nice surprise for a low cost beer!

L: Pours a transparent golden color with a minimal 1 finger head that quickly recedes to a surface fog.

S: Wow this smells too good for a lower cost beer. Hops up front and they are fairly fruity smelling.

T: Fruity hops up front with a generic slightly bitter finish like a copper ale. The best 'Gansett I have tasted to date.

F: Typical 'Gansett slightly over-carbonated soda like mouth feel. Semi-dry finish but not too dry.

No wonder why the zombie has a boxing glove on. This is a knock out win for 'Gansett. The H.P. Lovecraft tie in only makes it that much cooler. On the back of the can they give a brief word on Lovecraft then add a cool little story of how this beer was reanimated from their long lost Bock into Helles Lager. I hope this beer is around at Halloween because it would be the best ever for sharing then.

Crystal clear and pale gold in color. Decent hear that leaves a couple of rings on the glass.

Solid, creamy pale malt aroma. Very clean and attractive smell.

This has the good elements of a pilsner while still retaining the "round" mouthfeel and strong pale malt base. There's a good hop kick that I wasn't expecting from the style but it works. Some Helles beers have a sour taste, not this one. This is precise and balanced. This has become one of my favorites of this style.

Pours a clear golden color with white head. Cereal grains and some light grass notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes with mostly cereal notes.

Consumed 2/10/16

A: Deep gold in color with some orange, honey, and straw - crystal clear - pours with a large, lively, bright white head, fades to wisps, leaves spots and streaks of lacing

S: Bready and more hops than would be expected in a Helles - light bread, light biscuits, light grains, touch of cooked grains - some lager yeast - grassy, herbal hops - earthy - some light sweetness, with some fruity esters, apple skins

T: Grassy bread - very bready, as the style should be, with some light bread, bread crust, biscuits, light grains, pale malts, touch of caramel - grassy, herbal hops, with a low-medium bitterness - lightly sweet with touches of honey, apples, and sugar - earthy, finishes dry

M: On the light side of medium, crisp, medium carbonation, dry but earthy finish

O: Nothing makes me thirsty as thinking about reanimated corpses

This has some similarities to Narragansett's seasonal bock (probably because they fall into the same style). Unfortunately, the malts lack a bit of the charm of that beer, and the extra hoppiness does not really add much. This is a decent Helles, but nothing to get out of your grave to try.

Poured from the 16oz can into a pint glass, it comes out an amber/light copper color, clear as glass, with a frothy head that leaves some lacing.

Smell is sweet bready malts, hints of apple juice, an herbal hop note hiding in the back. Taste starts pleasantly sweet and bready, middle is malt and grain, end quick with a flash of bitterness and some earthy hops. The hops aren't in your face, but are in the back mostly, like all Narragansett beers. If I had to guess the hops I would say Noble hops due to the style of beer and the flavor imparted, maybe some light Willamette or something.

Finish is slighty dry, very drinkable, overall not too shabby. The best part is how damn cheap this stuff is. Totally bottom shelf craft that sometimes reveals a diamond in the rough.
