Style: American Blonde Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
From the fishermen who have fought the harsh waters of the Northeast for generations, to the family clam bakes and lobster boils that celebrate their well-earned bounty, seafood is part of the fabric of every New Englander. We work hard, take nothing for granted, and have a good time doing it. When we crack our first lobster of the season, it's a big deal- an occasion to indulge, reflect, and party with friends and family. Since 1890, Narragansett has been the beer that fishermen toil to earn, and the beer the rest of us salute them with. This beer honors the risk and hails the rewards that comes with every "Fresh Catch." Fresh Catch is a supremely refreshing blonde ale that's dry hopped with citra for a crisp grapefruit finish. Aromas of citrus and passion fruit are very evident, but mild of the palate. Brewed to be the perfect pairing with shellfish or whitefish.

Poured a somewhat hazy golden color with a very persistent white foamy head. Significant lacing throughout. The smell is really dominated by the citra hops and the taste follows with some sweet malt in addition to the hops. Very clean finish. The mouthfeel is a little thin but not too bad for a low alcohol beer. Overall this is a great hot weather "drinking while working" beer.

By including the word ‘fresh’ in the name, the boys in RI did it right. Just a nice, smooth, well balanced beer. Not heavy and the perfect beer to go with that lobstah’ that is pictured on the can, or for a relaxing day on the beach, boat or patio.

Pours to rocky white head that lasts and laces. Pale gold. Clear.

Light, clean crackery biscuity malt, moderate floral, citrus hop.

Clean, crackery pale malts, middle sweetness and crisp, spicy bitter finish.

Feels great. Light to medium, a fair bit of stickiness and perfect moderate level of CO2. No harshness.

Easy drinking, clean and crisp. Has a significant amount of hops without overpowering the malt. A very good hop forward rendition of a Blonde.

Narragansett Brewing Co. "Fresh Catch"
16 fl. oz. can, coded "D138 130147"
$2.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice label but I'm not sure how fresh this "Fresh Catch" is considering the code on the bottom of the can is "D138 130147" - what the hell does that mean? Anyway, I love that they've decided to dry hop it with Citra so let's see how it is! It's poured a massive head of bright white foam atop a clear golden body. Nice. The aroma is not so great. They may have used Citra, but how much did they use. Still, it gives it a fresh, clean note with just a touch of citrus to it. The flavor follows and it's pretty much a basic American adjunct lager with some citrus thrown in. This is cheaper but for my money I'd rather go with Yuengling's Lord Chesterfield, 100% hopped with Cascade. It's grainy, basic, and fairly bitter for what it is, around 25 IBUs. It reminds me of the regular Narragansett Lager except that this is lighter and more bitter. It finishes dry with a residual note of lemon. It's light-medium in body and crisp, and the head has held up well and even left some very nice lacing behind. At least it looks good! As a basic beer, lawnmower beer, after-work beer, or just something to wash down you're lunch I guess it does the job but there are much better choices out there.

Probably one of my last summer beers this year. It pours a pretty golden with a relatively impressive tight bubbled white head that leaves sticky lace behind. Nose is light citrus over bread malts.

A little more balanced in flavor than is usual for the style, with enough lemon tinged hops to basically neutralize the honey and biscuit type notes. A bit crisper than expected as well, with a touch of astringency that isn't optimal. Texture is a bit creamy which is a plus. Slightly flawed, but a solid effort nonetheless from Rhode Island's flagship brewer.

Pours a mild golden hue with a one-finger head into my glass. Sweet with a touch of citrus from the citra hops in the nose. Clean, crisp taste with good dose of citra hops at the back of the throat. Finishes clean. I'm surprised by this hella-decent example of a blonde ale.

From the 16 oz. can. The stamp on the bottom reads C138-130129. Sampled on April 28, 2018.

It is most definitely a clear, golden pour with a boisterous white foamy head that eventually dissolves to a ring with lacing.

The aroma is pretty straght forward and typical of the style. IO get biscuit sweetness, toasted bread, grass, but little in the way of citrus considering it was brewed with citra hops.

Light to medium and smooth body.

The taste is perfect for a warm day. Something to have after working in the yard or cooking a barbecue. Toasted biscuit sweetness, mild grassy hop finish. Clean ending. Nothing that blows me away but it makes me anxious for summer.

I really liked was unexpectedly akin to a nice British bitter with good mouthfeel and taste.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is mild, some malts. Taste is not so good. On one side is some biscuity malts, hops on the other, and they are not meshing well together. Feels medium/light bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.
