Serving: 16oz can, from the can
Served: 2 June 2014

Appearance: Had this from the can, so can't comment much on the appearance. Love the 16oz can though and the traditional/retro style artwork.

Smell: Smells like "beer" with a faint hop aroma adding some depth of character and a slight spiciness.

Taste: One of the best tasting AALs I think I have had. This beer actually has body and flavor, unlike many other beers of this style, especially those mass-produced ones. The beer is sweet and refreshing with minor hop notes and an ever-so-slight hop bitterness on the back end. The fact that there are any hops in this beer at all pushes it high on my list of AALs.

Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated and refreshing on the palate. Light to medium-light body, which is better than most other AALs.

Overall: This is a severely underrated style due to it's simplicity, but Narragansett Lager is an exemplary addition to the style. This is probably my favorite AAL to date and one that will be hard to beat. At $5.49/sixer of 16oz cans, this beer is impossible to beat in terms of flavor and value. This will be a staple in my fridge during the hot summer months where a simple, easy drinking beer is all one really wants until the sun sets and the heat subsides a bit. Would highly recommend as a go-to, everyday cheap beer.

Tasted in an East Coast/West Coast Narraganset vs. Rainier taste off.

Pours a clear straw color with a light white head. Some lacing is present but for the most part the head disappears quickly.
There is no readily discernible smell.
The taste is light with a wet malty character. There are some hints of hop bitterness and grassy notes.
The mouthfeel is light and generally pleasant but with some slight unpleasant after-taste that the carbonation doesn’t cover up.

Purchased from one of the local cigar lounges.

A: Clear golden with a fizzy head that dissipates quickly.

S: Balanced hop and malt characteristics.

T: Same as the smell. Maybe more malt.

M: Smooth and rich for the style.

O: The best of the style so far.
