place of tasting: Barley Vine - Bristol, CT
beer: Imperial Bohemian Pilsner
brewery: Narraggansett
brewery location: Buzzards Bay Brewery, Westport MA.
type: Ale
style: Pilsner
abv: 8.6%
ibu: 35
serving type: bottle
glass: mug w/appearance test in tasting glass
temperature of beer: 45F

Appearance: a little more copper than the traditional pilsner, very slight cloudiness

Smell: gorgeous malts, not too sweet, the hops come through a little with some strawberry with a small hint of banana creme brulee

Taste: like I would expect an Imperial Pilsner to be. Awesome, a bit bitter and hoppy up front trailing to creamy malt.

Mouthfeel: light bodied with just a bit of creaminess smooth and perfectly carbonated

Overall Impression: awesome beer, I would want it with food as the bitterness may be too much without it.

Food Pairings: BBQ for sure, banana bread pudding with sweetened dried raspberries. Sausage pepper

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on March 2, 2013.

The pour is a slightly cloudy straw yellow with busy carbonation leading up to a tremendous, puffy white head. The beer is bottle conditioned to make it a tad cloudy.

The aroma is alive with malts including pale malts and softer Belgian malts, which are used to brew this. The hop character is played down on the nose.

The body is medium and creamy.

Like the aroma the taste highlights the malty character but then a moderate hop bitterness comes up and surprises me on the tail end as it merges with the sweetness of the malts. The hop bitterness lingers just a moment and fades. The 8.6% ABV is well-integrated making this entirely drinkable and refreshing.
