Export version of Novopacké pivo Brouček.

There is no date on the bottle. The pour is canary colored with a moderate flow of carbonation. I agree with the metallic "mouthful of pennies taste", along with some soft caramel & grains. Cheers! C

Great color nice head rich hops and a fresh bitterness. What else do u want from a Czech pilsner. Compared to Czechvar or pilsner urquell this blows them both out of the water.

Mostly clear amber body with a white cap. Smell and taste are the same in that they both feature skunky euro macro adjuncts with metal twinges on the back end, but the nose is so much more potent that it is rougher. Other flavors include dulled flowers, cracker malt and pale grassy hops. Feels skunky, but very crisp in the finish with really good maltwork. Just another macro euro pils

2021 re-rate. Skunky and metallic, no date on the bottle. Odd waxy note as well. Dropping smell and taste ratings.

Picked up a 4 pack of 500ml cans for $5.00.
A little darker than a pilsner, but good levels of carbonation. An aggressive pours yields a small, diminishing white head. Smell is hoppy, sweet, malty, slightly skunk, but not in an off putting way. Taste is sweet, spice, hops on the back end, and some decent malt presence.

This was pretty good. A very nice, crisp and clean pilsner. Not my favorite in the style, but at this price, it was a tasty beer without any detrimental flavors.

Pours a dark burnished gold color. Crystal clear and somewhat effervescent. Thick pillowy white head dissipates slowly but never completely. Lots of sticky white lacing left on the glass as well as a thin layer of white velvety foam.

Aroma has notes of light cracker malts, clear lager yeast notes, a hint of skunkiness and a light spicy grassy hop aroma on the back end.

Taste has notes of bread, smoked malts, grassy spicy hops and some light honey sweetness. I definitely get a mild smokiness to this one thats unexpected. Hops come through towards the back end and are pronounced on the finish.

Feel is somewhat heavier, medium bodied but still pretty crisp. Sprightly carbonation. Moderately dry finish.

Overall this is kind of an odd duck with the smoky like notes coming through. That being said, I liked it and its within the style for a Bohemian Pilsner.

Poured from can. Pours surprisingly amber with little foam. Mildly grainy aroma. Low hop bitterness with bready malt. Thin bodied, very slight green apple flavor. Not nearly as hoppy as expected for a czech pils, though few of them are anymore. Nice malt character but could use more bitterness and finishing hops.

This is (obviously) a new beer for me, and I have always considered myself a conisseuer of fine Czech lagers. Crystal clarity and a maltier nose than expected for the style.

This is a subpar Czech pilsner. Thin and wispy with a bit of late sawdust in the mouth. I love trying random eurotrash lagers I find in the back of dusty distributors, but I won't be looking for this one again.

BrouCzech got half of the appearance right: its pristine, shimmering gold complexion is peppered with tiny bubbles. It looks brilliant, though it's missing a head. One would expect such active and consistent carbonation to produce a healthy, long-lasting lather but, alas, even the trim around the glass requires a magnifying glass to spot.

Czech pilsners are distinguished by their floral, almost spicy hoppiness, the contribution of the country's flagship hop: Saaz. For the unfamiliar, it is a wonderful and distinct scent, not so tropical or piny as 'New World' varietals, that offers a more rustic and herbal yet highly ambrosial bouquet. It helps define European lagers and is renown for this style especially.

But not this specific brand. BrouCzech leaves plenty to be desired. The aroma contains virtually none of the characteristics described above. And while I have no suspicions of adjunct, the maltiness it displays is also incredibly lackluster. There's a slight cardboard/ newspaper tinge that suggests staleness even though there's almost a year before the stamped 'best before'.

The palate really fares no better. The grain again lacks any richness, complexity or even the basic subtle bready sweetness. The finish, in place of a floral or spicy bitterness, allows the wet cardboard taste to carry on unabated. It actually becomes a little unpleasant once the chill wears off. I definitely look for more hop character and cleaner maltiness from this style.

The label doesn't just state that the brewery has been around since 1872 but that this lager has been brewed the same way ever since. I'm sure the technique hasn't changed but really doubt that the recipe hasn't - suppliers, consumer tastes, costs, brewmasters - all these things change over time. Even it hasn't, maybe it aught to have... BrouCzech should be better.
