Stopped in for a quick beer run after picking up some bison marrow bones from Rawsome around the corner...ended up breaking the bank when I saw the selection.

This has perhaps the best selection currently among all the Whole Foods I've been to - with tons of great Belgians in addition to all the California locals (many of which I'd never seen before). I didn't notice much Alesmith, Ballast Point, or Russian River on this trip, but pretty much any and every other California brewery in our distribution area had several bottles available: The Bruery, Marin, Lost Abbey, Telegraph, Skyscraper, and dozens more. Their out of state selection is very good with nearly the full range of offerings from Deschutes, Hair of the Dog, New Belgium, etc. The Belgian selection was very impressive as well with Fantome Noel, Scaldis Premiere, and multiple offerings from Cantillon, Kasteel, Rodenbach, and so on. All in all there must be several hundred bottles available here - this location has a ton of real-estate and the beer/wine aisle utilizes a significant portion of it. Prices are mostly comparable to the better stores in California, but a few of the out of state beers seemed a bit higher priced than normal (e.g. some of the Lips of Faith bombers were $14). Then again, considering the mark-up on pretty much all other items in this store, they don't really gouge you on beer.

Service was pretty hands-off which is fine with me - I was in and out in a flash despite the store having the shopper population of a small town.

Whole Foods choices for beer are often a crap shoot, but many times they are just the perfect and even the best places to go to.

In the Venice and Venice Beach area, this place hands down gets the nod. There is an ample selection of beers here, and also in a variety of formats, from bombers to 6 pack bottles and cans. There is also a very large cold storage shelf which is loaded with goodies. California has a great selection of breweries, and there are some excellent go to here, along with some locals, and the odd obscure brew. Import selections particularly Belgian is a little sparse, but the domestic far exceeds your expectations. There is also a very large growler filling station as well with quite a few choices there as well.

Great stop in Venice for craft brews.

One of the larger and better Whole Foods. The beer selection is larger here than most Whole Foods and it continues to grow and improve. Can find some of the more esoteric and rare from time to time. A good stop if in the Venice/Santa Monica/ Marina area.

One of the better Whole Foods beer experiences in the Los Angeles area. While not as enormous as Pasadena, it sports an impressive selection of fridged and non-fridged options that range from standard L.A. fare to some rarities (including Beachwood releases). Pricing is very reasonable, and there's also a bar that has plenty of interesting brews on tap as well for you to try out. Food-wise, you can find a wide selection of options like most larger Whole Foods. If you're in the area, this is your top stop for take-away beer.

I visited this Whole Foods location over the past weekend. This is a super fancy store with things I have never seen in a Whole Foods before (bar, smokehouse, etc.). The beer section is a long case of cold beers and shelves with warm bottles as well. The quality of the beers was good but there were a number of bottles that were dusty and seemed pretty old. The selection is really fantastic with lots of beers I have never seen before or only seen in limited amounts. The service was average as most Whole Foods usually are. Prices were reasonable for bottles. There is also a bar with 6 or so beers on tap and the prices seemed reasonable there too. Probably the best Whole Foods beer selection I have seen to date. Check it out if you are in the area.

This is the best place to buy beer in the beach cities. If you need help, ask for Mike, Matt, or Drew.

There are beer tastings every Friday at 7 pm at the wine/beer bar for $15 which includes 6 pours and light food which is a greal deal. Each tasting has a theme such as Saison, or beers from a particular brewery, like Bootleggers, or just the favorite beers from one of the beer specialist.

You can find the following breweries at Whole Foods Venice: Alaskan, Allagash, Alesmith, Alpine, Anderson, Avery, Ballast Point, Beer Republic, Beer Valley, Bootleggers, Bruery, Bruton, Coronado, Dales, Deschutes, Drakes, Dogfish Head, Dupont, Firestone, Gentlemen Scholar, Goose Island (but not Bourbon County), Gouden Carolus, Great Divide, Green Flash, Hair of the Dog, Jolly Pumpkin, Kern River, Lagunitas, Lost Abbey, Lost Coast, Mad River, Marin, Maui, Mikkeller, Mission, Moylan, Nectar, New Belgium, Nogne, North Coast, Ommegang, Oskar Blues, Port, Rogue, Russian River, Scaldis, Shmaltz, Shipyard, Stone, Telegraph, Unibroue, Val-Dieu, Victory, and moreā€¦

I have purchased limited releases at WF such as Pliny the Elder and Abyss which are kept in the back.

One of the better beer selections for a whole foods - good range of CA and Belgiums - although a little on the pricey side. About 75% in coolersThey have beer tastings every couple of weeks, but I have yet to make it to one - a dogfish head and maui coming up in october. There are 2 people that work there that are knowledgeable about beer, and the few times I've been there they've approached me to see if they could help me. The big news is that they are supposedly working on getting growler service! That would be awesome.
