Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.20%

Notes / Commercial Description:
471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy.

This beer reminds me of of the hard to get double IPA's Pliny the Elder, a good example.. this has a sweeter flavor, a bit of caramel to it. I would have to do the blind taste test. I don't taste any grapefruit citrus, by the second bottle of this stuff it is evident Breckenridge Brewery has got a very rich tasting beer on their hands. In sum, this is a great IPA, if not it is certainly in great beer territory. Very damn good.

A: [3.50] The bottle lists the ABV (9.2%). There is also a date code for (08/30/2016). So this one is a bit beyond peak freshness. The beer is a dark amber color. It has TONS of floaties in it. It forms a pretty minimal white head.

S: [3.50] Peach, alcohol heat (a little like rubbing alcohol), pine, pineapple.

T: [3.75] I get the peach from the nose. I am not getting the alcohol heat (at least not early). Also picking up the pineapple. Also hints of lemon rind. After a while getting some sweetness from the malts,

M: [3.75] Above medium body. Slight bitter at the end but not too dramatic.

O: [3.50] This is a decent beer. I think you could develop this flavor at 6% ABV - but still it does the job. The flavor has some depth and balance. The nose had a bit of a raw alcohol scent - but it didn't impact the flavor at all. Not one I'd seek out, just due to the high ABV relative to the flavor output.

I thought this Double IPA was overall decent.

Look: semi-clear copper with a thin bubbly white head.

Aroma: grapefruit, caramel, pine

Taste: Good malt backbone, caramel, pine, grapefruit, but a tad medicinal, I was hoping for more hops, and the alcohol was noticeable.

Feel: Medium body. The alcohol is noticeable. I think it was a good beer but not top notch.

Now PA allows grocery stores to sell beer! Bought this in a make your own six pack and am very pleasantly surprised. I love hops and the Caramel variety might be what makes this beer so smooth and tasty.

Unknown vintage; drank 10/22/14 on draft at Fischman's.

Murky orange hue.

White head; decent lace.

Smoke, honeyed grain & sweet citrus nose.

Thick mouthfeel.

Mango, orange...& slight urine flavors. Flavorful but off-putting.

Very good offering from BB. Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass Color was a nice medium copper with ample head. Very smooth taste more of a malty IPA. Not sure what the taste is im loving probably the caramel. Very good IPA

Bought a 4 pack, drank from a snifter. Interesting for an IPA, but very good. Good bourbon undertone, but it overpowers the hops a little too much. Definitely worth a try.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to snifter.

A: Burnt orange with a small white head. Unfiltered.
S: Orange, grapefruit, cinnamon, slight pine.
T: Sweet oramge and grapefruit. Fruity aromas waft into the nose. Slightly medicinal.
M: Medium. Sweet and bitter finish.
O: A little on the sweet side. Sticks around a little too much.

Orange/medium amber in color. Chill haze, and a pure white head which leaves 360-degree rings of lace in its wake. The aroma is a delicious combo of lemon tart, honey, and juicey orange slices. Medium-high resinous hop bitterness makes this an unmistakeable IPA, although there also exists a caramel and honey sweetness which is unusually strong for the style. The medium-bodied, creamy mouthfeel highlights the malt more than the hops, but the bitterness still manages to make it it to the finish. A sweeter, lighter DIPA, this beer, while tasty, is a touch too tame.

I get a strong bourbon smell and somewhat of a bourbon taste that, in my opinion kills some of the hoppy flavor I was hoping to get. This is a good to very good beer.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the Taco Mac in Smyrna, GA. The appearance is a nice orange color with a large white head. The aroma is citrus and the taste is a great hop/alcohol DIPA mix.

Look: It pours a golden orange that is actually more on the orange side. There is an off white moderate head that does produce a fair amount of lacing.

Smell: It has aromas of Grapefruit and apricot with bread and caramel in the background. There is also a hint of spruce.

Taste: IT is very sweet up front and bitters while in the mouth. There are grapefruit and apricot flavors with bread and caramel.

Feel: It has a moderate feel with a moderately bitter finish that is fairly long lasting.

Overall it is moderately bitter with strong fruit flavors and moderately malts on the low side.

12 oz bottle served reasonably cool into a pint glass. Purchased while over in the US. No freshness indicated on the bottle, fingers crossed that this is at least brewed in the past 2 months or so.

Appearance - Reasonably clear dark copper colored beer. Pours a nice finger of ivory head, impressive streaks of lacing left behind as the head dissipates at a glacial pace.

Smell - Plenty of hops, some tropical fruit, pineapple, mango, passionfruit and maybe guava. Plenty of caramel goodness too adding to the sweetness. Alcohol is noticeable in the nose.

Taste - fairly sweet, pineapple and mango again, bitterness is subdued, although flavors aren't quite as intense as I'd expect. Flavors are delicious once they hit the tongue, seems to take some time in my tongue getting them sorted out and it doesn't last for too long. Alcohol is well hidden in the mouth.

Mouthfeel - Carbonation is soft and body is surprisingly light and flat. Works well with the sweet flavors. Mouthfeel is sticky but not really cloying. Really nice balance and astonishingly easy to drink fro a DIPA.

Overall - Small Batch 471, has some serious potential, but the flavors don't quite last on the tongue long enough for me to advocate for this harder. Otherwise flat out it is an excellent, but sweet DIPA that will certainly turn some heads in a crowded field.

This beer tasted like it had been stored in an old barrel. The wood flavor and smell is dominate. Bought a bottle at Costco because the brewery is usually pretty good. However on the first poor you get a foul sour smell and the taste is not much different. The problem is with the tortured style of a DIPA. You get almost not hoppiness and all alcohol.

Cloudy poor with a white head.
Smell apricot with peach and citrus. First impression peach citrus (hops fade quick )with a back ground of sweet malt.
Mouth feel was medium.
Overall impression very good beer. I will get it again.

Very nice 2X IPA. Well balanced with lots of pine and earthy notes. 9.2 ABV is a sleeper. Not a huge presence of alcohol. Not my favorite 2X IPA but would not turn another one down.

A: crystal clear; bronze in color; 1 finger off white head that receded slowly to a wispy cap; very nice lacing;

S: strong pine and herbal notes; the combo smells somewhat medicinal;

T: follows the nose with some pineapple added in; same result - somewhat medicinal; pineapple becomes more prevalent at the end and that helps; finish is moderately bitter and long lasting;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: I'm not a fan of a medicinal note - even if it's intentional, which I think this is;

This is a great brew. The barrel aging softens the hops and evens out the flavor. The booze is subtle but adds a great level of complexity. I would almost bet this was an aged quad. Love this brew!

It almost has a fantastic smell, but it's so quiet it's hard to tell. This beer, along with the more recent I've tried, has me thinking that maybe I should stick to the styles I know and love.
A very experimental tasting beer.

Poured from a bottle without a date, golden translucent beer with a white fluffy head, some lacing. Smells lightly of citrus, very clean pale malts, and a little pine, but very muted. Taste is a tart bitter opening which fades into a clean, unsour finish thanks to the creamy malt texture. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Lightly carbonated. Sticky, hoppy, easy drinking brew that hides it's alcohol well. Almost dank but reserved. Cheers!

More malt than I expected. Not really cloudy, there's floaters in it. It's OK, not amazing but decent. I'd buy again if it was cheap and/or local, but I'm in the Northeast. If this is their DIPA I bet I'd like their IPA, will have to seek it out.

This has been a truly enjoyable IPA. There isn't much of a head when I poured it into my glass. But the aroma is so crisp. And it is only surpassed by the taste of the malts and large dose of hops. I really annoyed this one. Too bad it's a limited small batch.

Poured on tap into a snifter at Denver airport.
Great deep dark golden hue with minimal lacing.
More malty than hoppy but the ABV is well hidden.
Good beer, glad to try local stuff

Dark rich copper, decent amount of thick off white head. Very fruity smelling (raisins or am I crazy?). Taste is almost like a syrup with little to no hop bite. First breckenridge beer and I must say pretty damn good!
