471 Small Batch IPA471 Small Batch IPA

Brewed by:
Breckenridge Brewery
Colorado, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy.

Poured into a snifter.

Hazy golden orange with a short off-white head that dissipates quickly. Moderate carbonation.

Papaya, apricot, grapefruit, sugary caramel.

Very balanced between the caramel malts and hops. Upfront has some apricot and papaya characteristics. Caramel picks up mid-palate along with bready notes, orange juicy, lemon and honeydew. Finishes with grapefruit pith and light notes of pine sap.

Medium bodied, crisp, dry and sticky.

This is a pretty good DIPA but can easily get lost among other, finer crafted DIPAs. Definitely stands above average. Easy drinking at 9.2% and is nothing too offensive.

I found this beer all the label promised.

It gave a lovely hop aroma with a nice crisp white head over a slightly cloudy dark amber base.

The first flavor as you'd expect from this style is hops...a very pleasant bitterness on the back of the tongue. But it was not an all-out assault and it was very well balance by a malty sweetness in the front and a warm alcoholy mouth feel throughout.

I found this DIPA to be a very drinkable brew, not simply an expression of what a heavy-handed brewer can do.

I'll have another, please.
