Avalanche Amber AleAvalanche Amber Ale
Notes: This classic American amber ale blends pale, chocolate, and caramel malts to create a well-rounded, flavorful beer. Caramel malts lend whispers of toffee and an enjoyable sweetness, while a touch of bittering hops gives this beer its clean finish. Crafted for balance, Avalanche is a versatile and satisfying anytime beer.

Don't know why this is rated so low.....pours a nice amber semi-cloudy color, nice taste not overpowering, nice malty finish without much bite. Its a above average for the type. Good job.

This beer is a clear, light amber colored beer with a beautiful white head. The aroma is pleasant...malty, with a light spicy hop scent in the background. The taste is similar...malt, a touch of fruit, and a light hopiness. It's not an aggressive beer, but is rather a straightforward, approachable, and very drinkable beer. This reminds me of many brews from 20 years ago, solid and drinkable, but not overly creative.

A: Beers pours a very dark and clear orange body with a nice white head. Fair amount of head remains while drinking but almost no lacing.

S: The main smell here is of malt. Beer has a biscuity life smell. Not many other aromas present with the beer; hops nonexistent.

T: Similar to the nose the main taste is of the malt backbone. Lacking much of the usual amber spice profile, however. The tastes seem to have more in common with an average lager than an amber.

M: Beer has a light body but the overall mouthfeel is pretty bland. Beer is watery and thin and lacks much feel.

O: Poor example of the style. Beer seems to relate better to a typical lager.

I got this off a single shelf somewhere. It poured a clear amber with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had hints of caramel malt. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with caramel malt at the front. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer and easily sessionable.

Notebook entry from craft beer expo last year.

Appearance : 2 finger head, amber/honey colored, 50% opacity.

Smell : Oaky, slight rotten lemon, an off-putting wheat note. Unmistakably amber with toasted malts.

Taste : Light, easy drinking...some wheat and red ale flavors in there, slight oak and char.

Feel : Light to medium bodied, creamy, ends semi-dry.

Overall : A bit of sour funk is the off-putting factor here, otherwise it goes down easy for an amber ale.

the bottle has numbers for the months and weeks bottled but is not notched as it should be. pours a copper/amber with a quickly diminishing off-white head. aroma is mostly of euro vegetal/earthy/floral hops with just a hint of toffee. taste is mostly dry/crisp/astringent. mouthfeel is relatively light. this reminds me of a domestic attempt at a marzen but without the malt sweetness. basically something rather tame that you could have several of, would be a good intro to craft beer for meatheads.

A- Pours a deep copper fading into ruby. A finger of head turns into splotchiness.

S- Butter, bread crust, husk, cornmeal, light orange.

T- Musty, malt syrup. Just the tiniest hint of grapefruit pith.

M- A little syrupy, especially for the amount of flavor in this one. I'd prefer more carbonation.

D- Eh a decent standard drinker, I'd say about par with SA BL.

Apperance: sightly hazy amber brown color with very small head, little carbonation

Smell: Malty tones with slight hints of hops coming through.

Taste: Malty caramel flavors that's about it

mouthfeel: slightly bitter with little carbonation

Drinkability: A medium drink, not a favorite for the cellar but decent.

The beer pours a gorgeous shade of deep reddish brown with the perfect head, but that's where the beauty really ends. The taste is very average a little bitter for such a timid beer, and you don't feel like you'll really remember drinking it after you're done. Solid, but not really anything special.

Chalk it up as sheer genius, or clumbsy brilliance, Breckenridge has done something great with this one. Out of a can, that I have overlooked for a year in my local shop. Pours a tastilizingly huge head spilling over on the garage floor. Smells rather mundane. Not much to speak of here, moving along to the taste. Nuts and berry's and herbs. Piney, hoppy. Hits the mouth with a zesty bite with lots of creamy overtones. Finishes like something from belgium.Very easy do drink. Goes down too good. This beer is hard to put in a pigeon hole. I think it is all over the board, from its Irish Ale like carbonation and bite, but rather close to a northwest pale ale in character. All I know is I love it and at 14 bucks for a 12 pack of cans, you just can"t beat it. Nicely done.

Appearance - Deep orange to amber in color. Almost copper in color. Off-white head that dissipated rather quickly and didn't leave much lacing. Partly cloudy also. Was expecting a clearer beer for this style.

Smell - Malt and hops in the nose. A bit of an earthy smell. Actually rather sweet in the smell. Just a touch of caramel hides underneath. Also, detecting that slightest hint of butter.

Taste - Sweet malt with little hop bite, but some IS present at the very end. Not bad really. Not overdone with malt, but enough to make me want another sip.

Mouthfeel - Actually has a fairly thin mouthfeel, but it is somewhat dry in the finish. Crisp. Does a decent job of hanging around in the throat until the next sip.

Drinkability - This is a decent brew. Not outstanding, but nowhere near horrible. I like it ok and would give it a second try if someone offered. Beats any "macro" by a long shot in my opinion.

Drinking this in a restaurant in Jacksonville Florida, on tap poured into a pint glass.
Smells lightly bready, slightly floral
Taste follows the nose.
Mouth feel is light for the style.
Overall, quite sessionable. But I prefer a beer either hoppier or maltier, I probably wouldn't order again.

Poured 12 oz bottle into Nonic glass. No date available.

Pours a nice head of 1" that dissipates to a layer of fine lace. Color is more amber than red.

Smell is of malt, somewhat toasty and sweet. Flavor is nice, but nothing outstanding. Good clean finish, no aftertaste.
