A: Very very deep brown, with red hues appearing near the edges when held up to the light. Near-white head that recedes to moderate lacing. Many streams of bubbles are apparent near the surface, where the light hasn't been sucked up yet.

S: Big rich vanilla notes, with.... malt in the background? Truthfully, just about all I smell is vanilla, but it is so deep that there must be something other contributing to it.

T: Just like the nose, vanilla is in the limelight. A bit of sweet caramel is present as well, not much malt, wheat, yeast or hops to speak of. I let out an involuntary 'mmmm' on the first sip, but after the 10th and 11th it becomes a bit cloying. Definitely provides the vanilla as advertised, but I prefer it to be accompanied by something else, more balanced.

M: Easy drinking with little carbonation.

O: Lives up to the front-and-center VANILLA on the label, and exactly what I was expecting. Just turns out that it wasn't what I prefer. Vanilla can steal the show, but it shouldn't be a monologue.

A- dark brown borderline black with off white tannish head. Retention was short lived

S- coffee and caramel notes with whiffs of vanilla

T-the vanilla is surprisingly subtle. Coffee and roasted malt flavors with the vanilla coming in on the finish

M-fairly thin for the style. Just slightly cloying/ sticky on finish

O-overall not bad but left a lot to be desired. Not really an amazing porter and not enough complexity to be an interesting variation on the style

Poured from 12oz bottle.

The label says Remarkable Vanilla Porter, but I found it was really only one of the three. I could go through all the categories, but if you imagine all those categories for a generic porter you pretty much have this beer figured out. I found it an average porter, but got almost no vanilla and nothing really special from this beer. It is painfully average, so you will not hate this beer, but you will probably not love it either.
