Style: English Old Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our fall seasonal combines the malty goodness of a German lager with the clean crispness of an American ale. Brewed with Munich malts and a delicate blend of Bavarian hops, it's a full-bodied treat with a nutty-sweet middle, a warming alcohol level and notes of toasted grains. A pre-winter winner.

Pours a lovely rich, amber-brown color that appears ruby-tinted black in the glass with a finger-and-a-half of lasting tan head. You can just make out the strong effervescence, too, right where the head meets the body. Only upon drinking do you get some sloppy sheets of lacing.

Sweet, roasted malts dominate the nose with a hint of coffee, lighter hints of chocolate and berry, and a definite whiff of carbonation.

The chocolate and berry pop more in the taste. There’s almost like a chocolate-raspberry character cutting through the same roasted malt from the nose. There’s a bit of hop bite in there, and also a flash of brown sugar.

Medium bodied with strong carbonation that creates a prickliness to the feel.

This is a fine fall beer. Plenty of malt flavor with enough bitterness for balance and a heavier ABV than I realized while drinking it.

A pleasant surprise and something new and different to me (at least) from the normal fare this time of year from craft beers...

A lovely shade of dark brown with a generous foam top and an even more generous lacing down the glass. The smell was a tad muted, but still appealing with a mouthfeel that was light-bodied, slightly watery, but not so much that it detracted from the overall experience. The taste is what surprised me the most - full of flavor - nutty as described, malty and slightly sweet. Overall this is really a very nice beer, truly a great surprise.

I wanted to rate this one higher as its got a lot going for it. About the only thing holding it back for me is the carbonation. It just needed a bit more gas. Other than that, its a rich and malty fall style ale that's heavier than the usual Oktoberfest. Would likely not buy again however but was worth the shot. The remaining 5 bottles will be placed into my rotation and be gone in a few months.

Pours a nice dark, fizzy root beer color with a medium head...nice lacing. This is a malt-head's dream. I will get it again in the near future if I get the chance.

Poured into a custom shaped grip glass: color is brown, head is very light tan, head presents less than 1/2 inch and dissipates quickly.

Smell is lightly sweet, with toasty, cocoa, hint of bitterness.

Taste is similar with lighter flavor with not quite as much sweetness or fullness in flavor as some other brown or old ales. Specific components include toast, cocoa, lighter caramel, some nuttiness, - abv is hidden well .

Mouthfeel is moderate with soft to moderate carbonation, crisp feel, light lingering sweetness.

Overall this is a good brown ale

12oz bottled 42 days ago (might be 142 days?) poured into a.5L becher pint at fridge temp 7% ABV. Poor bottle dating in black beside label only visible once the beer is poured. The beer pours dark brown with above average retention and lacing on the light mocha colored head. The aroma is noticeable with nutty & toasted malt. The taste is a little sweet up front with some chocolate and toasted bread flavor. The aftertaste is strange and a bit tangy. Mouthfeel is thin bodied, well carbonated and undry. Overall, ok. This beer just doesn't come together. It's like they combined bits of brown & old ale with marzen and missed all the best parts of each.

Bottle lists 7%. Very dark colored with a thick tan head. Wow looks pretty good. Interesting scent of euro hops? wang with some malt which doesn't match what I would expect from the look of this brew. It's got some toasty flavor and the slightest of hops bite. Nothing offensive but yet nothing bold. I am surprised with the flavor after seeing this beer I was expecting something more like a stout. This beer has a thicker feel and less carbonation. All in all very inoffensive but nothing bold.

To me, the taste is exceptional. Everything else is good. Head was gone immediately. Carbonation was maintained. I favor dark stronger beers, and recommend this one to those with the same tastes.

Just noticed that the description says 6%, but I thought my bottle said 7.5%.
