Day two of our fifth Big Beer Adventure took us to Traverse City. While the main objective was Right Brain, the convenient colocation of North Peak meant that we could not ignore it, even if we felt no overwhelming urgency to visit. Having visited, we understand the original sentiment.

While the building itself is charming and industrial archeology, not far from the water front, the interior is rather bland and, it must be said, more along the lines of TGIF. I'm always a bit suspicious when large plasma TVs play too prominent a role in the decor.

We confess to not giving the complete beer list a fair shot but rather based our critique on a couple of pours; that and the somewhat defensive disinterest of the bartender. He seemed rather offended by my observation that the imperial red needed to be a bit warmer (not a negative statement but merely one saying I think I will like it better as it warms up).

Given that Traverse City is a big vacation town, or so it seems, i imagine that a lot of business comes from occasional visitors rather than a hardcore base. I couldn't imagine being a regular there myself.

Brew club members for 10 years. Lifetime memberships are half price during member events.

One of the few pubs here that have a cask pump with a unique beer always available. They now have four seasonals plus the cask in addition to the 5 menu beers. Menu beers are good, especially the NP Porter, Shirley's Irish Stout (nitro), and Diabolical IPA. Seldom drink the menu beers anymore as there's usually something interesting in the seasonals or the cask.

Note that the bottled North Peak beers are not made here, even though the names are the same. Everything served here from the tap is brewed right in the brewhouse at the entrance. The bottled stuff is made at the production facility in Dexter, MI as are the kegs for distribution to other bars and restaurants.
There's also Kilkenny's Pub downstairs that shares the same brewer and kitchen. Opens later and stays open late. Some of the beers there are unique to Kilkenny's.
Both have full service bars with extensive bottled beers.
Full restaurant menu with monthly food and beer combo specials. The thin pizzas are excellent and our usual preference. A pie and a couple of beers each for less than $30 with our Brew Club perks.
There is an outdoor deck with live music during the summer.

Been here many a time and will continue to do so. They have a nice outdoor patio with a downtown vibe. Great beer selection of course (rotating seasonal and classic alike) and the food is excellent. A must try when in TC. Also if you with a group of ppl you can hit up the irish bar basement deal next door and party harty when your done savoring a great dinner and brew from North peak! cheers !

The place is absolutely beautiful. I hear that the food is great, but we did not eat. there was 3 of us that ordered beers. We each ordered different beers. All the beers came out with very large bubbles or foamy heads. Each of the beers tasted like soap. This includes the cask beer that they had that night. I hope that this was a fluke and we just went on a night that they cleaned the lines. On this night, we all left with 3/4 of a pint on the bar.

Beer is very passable. Food is meh. Big time tourist destination. They are one of the oldest brewpubs in Traverse City and do very well given their location. Nice building. Staff is young and while helpful, kinda douchey. Menu is joe average fare from frozen food supplier without much creativity (if Applebee's is your thing, you'll be fine eating here). Buy the beer in any local store without disappointment or astonishment if you want to try it. Many better choices in town for food.
