look: 4.5 | smell: 4.75 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a goblet.

L- Pours deep, dark amber with an off-white head that is as resilient as they come.

S- Smells of apricots, dark fruits, plum, some banana, spice and sweet malt.

T- Taste follows the aroma with big fruit and malt flavor: dark fruit, apricot, banana, spice, and an impression of malty sweetness but with a dry finish that doesnt linger.

F- Body is medium-light. Finish is somewhat dry but this beer is not thin. Highish carbonation.

O- A favorite, something to be savored!

Look: It pours dark amber with an off white head. Head retention is excellent.

Smell: Fruity aromas from plums are the strongest. There is a bit of cherry with it. There is some malty sweetness.

Taste: There are strong fruity tastes of cherries and plums. It has a bit of spiciness to it with some bread. It does have a slight earthly notes to it as well.

Feel: It has a moderate body with a very dry finish.

Overall: A pleasant blend of fruity esters and Belgian yeast make this a complex ale with a very dry finish.

Excellent Abbey that I would have rated higher if not for the price, $17 - 4 pack. With that said, the beer reeks of quality and is always a treat. For a buck more however, $18 - 4 pack, Chimay Blue is really worth the coin and blows the Red out of the water. Ommegang Abbey at $10 4 - pack is a better buy and just might be better overall.

11.2 oz bottle. Bought at Barrels &Vines. Didn’t see a bottled date.

Pour: deep copper brown. Thick three finger white foam head. Lasts and lasts and lasts. Moderate lacing.

Nose: dark fruit, sugar hint of alcohol.

Taste: dark fruit dominates with nutmeg, clove, banana. Slight bitterness especially on the finish.

Mouthfeel: highly carbonated. Almost overwhelms at first. Mellows a bit as it warms. Not chewy but not watery. Very drinkable.

Overall: nose and taste are top notch, well balanced. The carbonation is a bit much for me but as the beer warmed the carbonation mellowed a bit. Great beer. Looking forward to finally trying the rest of the Chimay family.
