I was impressed with the Kirkland Hefeweisen, which is a good dark wheat beer. So how about the Belgian White? Well, to me it's not a Witbier along the lines of a Hoggarden. It's pretty dark in color and head, and the taste is spot on Blue Moon. In other words, a good wheat beer, especially for the price. But if you a longing for a true Witbier, this pour will disappoint.

For a generic wheat beer, do give this a try!

A- Hazey golden amber honey body with small white head that left no lacing.

A- Sweet malt and slight orange notes. I smell no corriander.

T- Sweet wheat malt and orange. Leaves an aftertaste similar to other Wits, but darker(?) tasting.

M- Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

D- No thanks. I wouldn't buy this beer. I might drink this beer if it was a hot day and I needed something refreshing, but I wouldn't count on it.

My brilliant sister bought this big case of a Kirkland mixer pack. They were somewhat inexepensive. For the most part, they are drinkable and representative of their repective styles, but if you are tasting and comparing, not so good.

This was one of the kirlands that I preferred. It had a slightly authentic taste, smell. color, etc. It has some funky aftertaste, but otherwise, it is a reasonable representation of what it is supposed to be.

It's drinkable, but I will advise my sister to not buy this again.

The beer pours orange in color with a bit of copper and amber. The head is very slight and leaves very light lacing on the glass.

The aroma is very fruity and spicy, orange and coriander predominate.

The taste is of a light wheat type malt with lots of orange and coriander.

The mouthfeel is a bit slight and watery, but if you like white beers, this has very good flavor, it could just use more body and carbonation.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

A: Pours a light orange/ golden color. It has a small, thin white head that fades quickly. It is very cloudy and appears to have limited to no carbonation.

S: The smell is mostly of an orange fruitiness. Some spices are also present, most notably coriander. There is also a sort of tangy sense in the smell.

T: Again, orange peel dominates the taste along with some wheat. Not much else going on here.

M: The body is on the lighter side. There is limited carbonation and leaves a bland finish.

D: This beer is easy to drink but is just mediocre for a witbier.

Serving Type- Served from a chilled 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Cloudy, golden appearance with orange undertones. About a fingers worth of white head that dissipates to about a quarter inch leaving condensation in its place.

Smell- Citrus aroma, notes of orange and coriander create that classic Belgian white aroma.

Taste- The mild amounts of wheat and barley mixed with orange and coriander give this Belgian white a citrus flavor with just the right amount of bitterness at the end.

Mouthfeel- A healthy amount of carbonation but not too overbearing. Has a crisp smooth finish.

Overall- I bought a variety pack from Costco because it looked interesting and, well, I was curious to see what kind of beer Kirkland Signature produced. Considering that it just might be the most inexpensive beer that I purchased in a long time, it led up to my expectations. Compared to most Belgian White Ales however, it wasn't all that impressive. In my opinion this ale was the best out of the variety pack.

Hazy golden with a large very light beige head that diminished slowly. Smells spicy with some malt. Coriander and orange peel are there as advertised and are pleasing and not at all fake, overpowering or sicking sweet. Hops balance well with some bittering. Finishes crisp, dry but not puckering and carbination is adaquate. For 79 cents a bottle its pretty fresh, refreshing and very much better than your average adjunct. I would definately get this again.

Purchased as a case (only way) with other kirkland beers. Poured into ommegange stemmed glass

Pours pretty but NO head and zero lacing. The color of honey
Smells of tires or new shoes or something. Maybe like your fingers after you've been handling rubber bands
Tastes pretty bland and flavorless but with that rubber stick on the roof of the mouth.
Feels okay as it has decent body but overall it is not a good beer really. However the Amber ale and the IPA from Kirklands are not bad at all.

Brown 12 oz. bottle served in a pint glass. Pours a golden yellow with some haze but still somewhat translucent for the style. White cap settles to a light film.

Nose is subtle with some light wheat notes, though wheat seems less abundant than typical. As the beer warms the coriander spice becomes more apparent, yet never truly dominant. Quite light and subtle in the end.

Flavor again is light and without the body expected from the wheat. Offers a lemon/orange flavor as well. Feel is decent but a bit thin in nature, finishing again with light hints of orange and coriander.

Overall a bit clear in color yet dark, lightly spiced and thin in body. Smooth drinking and more like many a Blonde Ale as there is little hint of any Belgian yeast character or a rich wheat contribution.

I was fairly impressed considering this is a Kirkland brand beer. Just like the label describes, the beer is a nice wheat filled taste with hints of orange peel. There are many other white ales that are far better than this one. However, next time you are in the Costco alcohol section, don't write off the Kirkland brand. There are many delicious brews in this 24 pack that exceed expectation for the price of $19.

12 oz bottle served in pint glass. Best by date: June 2011. Brewed by "New Yorker Brewing Co., Utica, NY" and sold by Costco (sole vendor) in a 4/variety mix-case.

Pours a cloudy copper/amber color with a thin light tan head. Most of the head dissolves quickly but thin partial head remain that leaves little lacing.

A - spicy citrus with orange most dominant. Toasted malt and oats.

T - Substantial citrus flavor; so much that I suspect orange juice is involved. Noticable coriander. Subtle malt and grain flavors. Quite sweet -- too much sweetness, I suspect, for many beer drinkers -- but the sweetness wans rather than lingers in the finsih. More sour than bitter: IBU = 10. Pleasant mild aftertaste.

M - medium/light body with medium carbonation. Quite smooth.

Drink - easy to drink; refreshing and thirst-quenching; certainly appealing compared to many beers that do not cost more. Lacking boldness, complexity, hoppiness and other traits most beer aficianodos seek.

At $19 a case, this is a good buy ... except: only available in mix packs with 3 other varieties, some of which are likely to be far less appealing than others, depending on the particular consumer. Hence, a good case for a party. This beer apparently replaces the Hefeweisen in the variety pack; an upgrade IMO.
