Over its long history, stout has served many purposes, from a doctor-recommended cure-all to an aperitif for Russian royalty. Somewhere in the middle is Chuli Stout, a dry Irish style stout, which takes its name from the mighty Chulitna River. An ample amount of roasted barley imparts dry, coffee-like flavors, while flaked barley adds smoothness and body. And if that weren’t enough, Chuli Stout is conditioned and served with nitrogen, amplifying smoothness and creating that rich, dense, classic stout pour.

Got this from Adam in AK with a couple of his home brews. Thanks!!

It's black, the pour brought a 1 finger head of tan foam that lasts and lasts and when I check my glass after sipping, the lacing is good.

The smell is very roasty with notes of dark chocolate and that certain aroma that tells you that this is an Irish Dry Stout.

Very dry tasting indeed. Loads of roasted malt and some chocolate with a rather stinging bitterness that enforces the dry. It drinks a wee bit stronger than the 5.9% to me but no matter. This is bloody excellent!

Nonic pint at the Palmer Alehouse, Palmer, AK.

Pours black and opaque with a nice finely-foamed tan head. Good retention and lacing.

Aromas of coffee and toasted grains.

Roasted grains/coffee fairly prominent. It initially presents fairly dry, but a lactose/cake batter note slowly grows as this brew warms. It ends up perhaps a touch sweet for the style, but not out of bounds by any means.

Outstanding creamy but dry finish.

Overall, a solid AK brew.

nice can of stout here, a little sweet and thick for all day drinking, even in the irish dry style, but well made beer without a doubt, just my second from these guys, but a memorable one, as this was enjoyed with friends new and old. real dark almost black look to this, some obvious viscosity, and a ton of roast, nicely bitter through the whole thing, balancing what almost presents as milk sugar to me, but the intensity of the dark grain outlasts it at the end, the good guy wins here. coffee and dark chocolate notes abound in aroma and in the flavor, and there is a subtle earthiness, almost woodiness running through it giving it some depth. slightly old worldy on the yeast, but i do wish this were drier, a little bit heavier than i need it to be with the sugars left over, but this has all the elements and is well put together overall. smooth in body and palate coating, appropriately mellow in terms of bubbles, smooth without needing anything more. good enough to have me curious to drink more from denali when i am back in alaska next.

This is my favorite overall beer. As a lifelong Fairbanksan, I also love that it's "local". This is on tap at any spot worth going to in Alaska!

- serving at Skinny Dicks, Fairbanks AK. Part of my great Alaska beer tour 2020.

A: Dark black shows some mahogany highlights when back-lighted, dark reddish tones around the edges. The head is creamy, a bit rough on the surface, and slight in size. Head retention was moderate per style with a small decorative pattern on lace left behind on the vessel. Decent effervesce.

S: The nose had some spiciness, chili peppers almost, though not reportedly in there, along with some dark malt tones. Burnt chocolate and a freshly ground roastiness. Some dried milkiness, and was fairly good overall in the strength department per style.

T: Again spicy chili peppers detection on the open along with some dark bitter chocolate and dried milk/creamer. Dried vanilla sweetness intermingles along with a generally good amount of roasty freshly ground coffee nature. A nice warmth and touch of alcohol. I must mention I do not believe this beer has any chili peppers added in it, but it did to me give off a bit of spicy nature regardless. The alcohol was well played and the flavor was above par for a dry Irish stout.

M: Mouthful was creamy and dry, Bitter chocolate overlays the tongue with a gentle and smooth massage from the nitrogen. Smooth feel overall comes with a bit of dry creamer lacing on the tongue afterwards.

O: Dry chocolate malt base, and dried creamer feel leaves with a good bittering feel. Earthy, roasty, and a good pub style beer to relax to with good company, especially at Skinny Dicks. Not a big fan of the Irish Stout but this was well amped in stout like qualities.

Had a tall draft at the Fairbanks airport. Solid unspectacular Irish Dry Stout that was probably the best choice available for my tastes.

12oz can served in a Georgetown sampler. I don't see a date on it, but it has been in my fridge for 6-8 months. Given to me by a friend who brought it back from Alaska.

Pours black with a medium head and medium carbonation. Smell is roast malt.

Taste is pretty standard roast grain. Not super strong, just clean and tasty.

Mouthfeel is thin and light. Overall, it's solid -- no more, no less.

The appearance has a black colored body with an off white one fingered foamy head that dies within about a minute leaving a nice sticky foamy lacing. The smell has some roasty light chocolate coming backed up by some malts. The taste is bitter and sweet at separate times with a dry coffee-ish aftertaste and finish. On the palate, it sits about a medium, and is somewhat sessionable. Carbonation is good for the style and for me as its not too harsh but not too soft, just right. Overall, I say this is a pretty good Irish dry stout well worthy of coming back to.
