Twister Creek IPA is an American style IPA, specifically a Pacific Northwest style IPA, meaning we use a lot of hops to produce it. If you’re a numbers person, you’ll like to let your customers know we use 1.75 pounds per barrel of hops, the majority of this being dry-hops. We use just over one pound per barrel of Columbus and Cascade dry-hops to produce an extremely aromatic IPA. The malt bill here is quite simple: American two-row malt with a little caramel malt on the side. Twister Creek is the creek that runs near the Spur Road before the railroad crossing at the edge of Talkeetna.

Pours golden clear with light head in pint glass on draught. Bitter West coast style IPA brewed in Alaska at 6.5% ABV & 71 IBU. PAIRS WELL WITH Alaskan Fish House in Ketchikan Alaska. Port day, cheers.

Had a pint at the Norton Sound Seafood House in Anchorage AK. Very similar to the Alaskan Husky IPA I polished off just before it, but less piney/resinous. Nice clear gold color with a small white head and good lacing and retention. I'm sure the head would have been bigger without the chilled pint glass. Piney and citrus hops in the nose and taste. A bit maltier than the Alaskan Husky. Mouthfeel was crisp and nicely bitter. A good IPA!

Had this on a train going from anchorage to Fairbanks in Alaska. Smell was of slight pine, malt and citrus fruit/grapefruit. Taste same as smell. Mouthfeel had a nice bitterness on the back end with a slight lingering acidity. Very good ipa, not too bad on the abv either. Would love to have the is again, maybe in a glass this time!

12oz can on Kenai Fjords Cruise. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of toasted bread, orange, grapefruit, and pine. Sweet tropical fruitiness with toasted caramel and a piney bitterness.

Can into pint glass. Pours a medium amber/gold with a nice off-white head. Initial impression is grapefruit, grass, pine resin, and caramel. Mouthfeel is a little thin for what I was expecting. Finish is grassy and somewhat bitter. A good example of an old school West Coast IPA.

right on the precipice of being old school and malty for the style, but its got a big dry hop on it and isnt just bitter, and the caramel malt part is only moderate, not dominant, this has great balance and drinkability if you like the robust full flavored types, which i certainly do. i believe this is their most popular offering, and for good reason, its an instant classic for me, checks all the boxes, tasted super fresh when i had it, and really is a great expression of a particular branch off the ipa tree, or rather the trunk from which most of the other branches come off of, i like this kind of beer, even though its disappearing these days. clear brassy look to this, average white head on it in the shaker pint, aroma of pine and bitter citrus pith, definitely a higher alpha c varietal type brew, familiar for sure, but a little more dry hoppy and aromatic than a lot of them, showcasing these hops well, spicy like cascade is in the mix, woody and green like centennial, but i am guessing. the flavor has clean grapefruit, grassy earthiness and light vegetal qualities, and prominent freshness. oily and west coasty on the hops too, and plenty bitter, i like that this finishes with a pop. the grain is a bit nutty but not sweet like it can sometimes be in these more old fashioned types, and the body is lighter medium which keeps this real drinkable. big pine resin finish on it, some hoppy linger but no burn, and overall a really nice beer. wish i was able to drink a little more beer from these guys when i was in alaska, but will make a point to do so on my next trip up there.

- Enjoyed on tap at Denali brewery twister creek restaurant, Talkeetna AK, part of my 2020 Alaska beer tour.

A: Nice medium dark orange coloring has a generally good clarity with a small amount of carbonation disturbance on tap. A thin sheet glass coating of lace weakly holds.

S: On the nose was first mention of sweet citrus, sugary malt, along with some tropical mangoes and pineapple fruitiness. The overall strength was moderate, smooth, and wet. An approachable aspect, did not find it as massively dry hopped as advertised, but then again my nostrils have learned to take a pounding on highly hopped beers. Has some wet pine and dried floral scents.

T: The flavor started with some sweet hops, sugary grapefruit, citrusy, cascade, provides for a clean bittering, flowery aspect, nicely balanced, not overly dry, and freshly bittering, with some dampness. It moves onto some grassy notes, clean upfront, but finishes with a dry flowery edge where the dry hopping comes into play. Some citrus grind, earthy grapefruit peel, piney resins with a bit of dried stone fruit. The Columbus hops, a personal favorite of mine, are here, but not nearly as pungent, providing soft background details of the flowery edge finish. I did pick up a bit of some dried fruitiness perhaps from the yeast.

M: The mouthful was crisp, soft feel, with a bit of creaminess to it, perhaps from the use of caramel and specialty grains, which along with the dry hops gives this an dry grainy, flowery coating on the afterfeel. Fairly slick off the tongue.

O: Overall I picked up some complimentary tropical fruit to go along with citrusy, pungent flowery hops of the dry hopping to create a nicely balanced beer accessible not only to main stream crowd, but also the more moderate hop drinker as well. Grassy hop finish, balanced and good drink-ability makes for second servings in the great drinking atmosphere of Talkeetna Alaska.
