After recently stumbling upon this place, I'm please to say it is a quaint, inviting watering hole.
The selection, while not extensive, is very impressive. And the staff is attentive, informative, and very friendly.
They also have a nice beer garden in the back, where you can kick back and enjoy your "pint of the day".

This place has whatever is in town at the moment, but also an excellent foreign selection, especially sours. Always good recommendations and while a limited amount of taps, always good stuff. They also own Holy Grale and I presume whenever the big dogs come around(Cantillon, Framboos, etc.) they throw a lot to the Grale (on premise consumption and higher price), all in all a good problem to have. This should be at the top of everyone's list when visiting Louisville.

This is what a beer store should be. Great staff, great beer, great location. I enjoy that the staff are just as knowledgeable as they are friendly and helpful so I'm almost always sure to get a delicious beer that I may have never known existed. If you love beer and are in Louisville, you want to go here.

This place rocks! killer selection of brews I cannot get in Jersey. The staff was top notch and knowledgeable. I will absolutely visit this place again. I can't stress enough the cool staff when I was there in October 2014. Recommended!

Stopped in while in town. Selection was great, but prices were really high. For example, a bottle that I got in NYC for $6.99 was $8.99 here. Could be distributor mark up, but $2 seems like a lot on a bottle under $10. Prices kept me from buying much.

Nice bottle shop with lots to choose from. Plenty of great American craft and a very nice import section. Cans all seem to be in the cooler. Tap selection was nothing special on my visit. Service was about nonexistent and they were out of carriers. Food is snacks only and I did not try any. I don't think there are any real bargains here but prices seemed about normal for a mostly singles-only shop.

LBS set a new standard in louisville for a bottle shop. They have been creative in event line-ups and tastings, and they have brought awesome brewers into the area.

Cheese and crackers (and maybe nuts?) are the only food go speak of, but it's locally made and also good.

The patio Is a nice place to go enjoy some brews with friends... Includes a fire pit.

It's the only place in town where you'll be able to find many European brews, but they are a bit pricey.

I thought this place was going to be the typical craft beer spot, but man it wasn't what i expected. You want to pop a top the moment you walk in. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable, patrons were friendly and the beer selection was ridiculous. If you ever make it to KY, I suggest you stop by and have a brew and perhaps walk away with a bag full as well. Nice Place.

Dropped by on a recent vacation - small bottleshop, but quite well heeled. They've got draft brews as well. I had no problem at all with the service, as some have suggested. My girlfriend stopped by for me the last time she was in the area, picked up a nice box of bombers for me. I was pretty jealous when she sent me a photo of the draft she was drinking - Zombie Dust. I still haven't gotten a chance to try that one. Cool little store.

The Louisville Beer Store is a great place to go get a new brew or to try something interesting off of their tap wall. They always have a great selection and seem to be the place to get something you have never tried before. With that said, go in, look around, don't ask for help, pay, leave.

The place is small but there are some good beers inside. The service is BAD and I have gotton the impression on my four trips that the crowd here is a bit snooty and smug. Price here is the biggest obstacle, however they do have some excellant selections albeit a little off step. Its a good place to be able to run in and out on your way out of town, assuming you can get waited on.

A - I've been once a Friday night during the "Trolley Hop" and downtown Louisville calls it. that was a pretty chill and groovy scene, but other than that it's pretty empty and boring. Feels like an antique shop.

Service - pretty terrible. I've been there several times and scene 2 different guys there. Both pretty much ignored me. I asked questions and asked for their suggestions, they gave short answers that didn't lead to any kind of convo. You work at a beer store, you'd think you;d enjoy talking about beer!

Selection - This is a strange one. It's almost like they are trying so hard to be hipster that they do not have some beers that are easily accessible, but still renowned as good craft beers. I won't start listing some of what they don't have but should, because all that is debatable and subjective I guess.
But at the same time they have a crap ton of beer that even someone like me who has dived into the craft beer world and scoured the internet for the biggest, best, rarest, and most popular still hasnt heard of!

No food served here.

Value - pretty expensive! but they just carry alot of expensive beers. But there prices are definitely higher than Liquor Barn

Nice place. Pretty small once inside. If you stop by on a weekend night, expect a crowd and not much room to get around. Nice rotating selection on tap. Huge selection of American craft and Belgian. Prices are okay. They are higher than large retailers but not by much. I dont feel I am getting ripped off by paying a dollar or two more to a local business. Just pay attention to what you are getting and know your area. If you want "Brand X" in a 6 pack, it can be had less, but if you just want a bottle, give it a shot.

There is no food here other than some nuts at the bar, so eat before you come. The best time to come is during the day. You're likely to be the only one or one of a couple of people there so its easier to ask questions and look around. Of course, the website says they open at "3ish", but of the two dozen or so times I have been there, only once have they been open at three. And that was because they had opened at 2 that day as I was told. Most times I sit in my car until as late as 3:45 waiting for them to open. This is my only major complaint. Other than that, visit this place and visit often!

The first time I went into the store was about a week after my 21st birthday. I had previously encountered beer before, but rarely found something I actually enjoyed (College parties exclusively feature PBR and "Lite" beers). I heard of the store, and also heard that it had great selection and knowledgeable staff.

I came in knowing I was going to spend some money. I'm not stingy. I will pay good money for good beer. The prices were not my problem with the store. My problem came when I was looking at the beer selection, and, as any new 21 year old, I was overwhelmed in trying to find the proper beer best fit to my tastes, or even a good recommendation. I waited for the staff member to finish up with the previous customer, and when he was finished I walked up to him. I politely tried to ask questions about beer, what beer he would recommend for me, and explained the flavor profile I was looking for. He replied, he was acting like I was an idiot, and I'll concede, I was. That was the point of asking for help. If I knew what I wanted or everything about beer, I would grab it and pay for it and leave. I left with nothing, as the man was of no help and made me feel like less of a person.

I came back a year or so later, figuring "Hey, I'll give them another chance. It's probably something I said. I have bad days at my customer service job too!" but again, I was met with the same attitude in a different staff member. I left, again empty handed.

Many people do not have a problem, I am just trying to support a local business, and would gladly pay more to support such a business. The concept is really awesome, but I am afraid I have to give it only one more chance to wow me. If it does, I will gladly change my review. It is possible I came in on two bad days, but I do not appreciate being treated like an idiot. I ask questions because I want input, not to annoy said staff person.

I did not get any draft beers while I was here but I did have a good time shopping.

This store had a pretty laid back vibe though I went in the middle of a Saturday afternoon so that might be different than it is on a weekend night. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

The place has a really nice selection including lots of bombers, singles, and even drafts. I was impressed that they had some rare or tough to find ones as well. I liked that there were lots of beers both on the shelf as well as chilled.

so this review is a bit late...my apologies...

I visited Louisville Beer Store this past x-mas eve (2011) while in town visiting family, and was immediately blown away by both the domestic AND euro selections.

The shop was off-and-on busy in the hour or so that I was there, so the guy working the counter's attention was at a premium. That said, he did a decent job...served my wife and father-in-law each a flight and was still able to help me while i stocked up on x-mas goodies for myself and the boys back home (if he was a bit more chatty, he may have even sold me another hundred bucks worth of beer).

At any rate, we walked out with several boxes filled with goodness from goose island, three floyds, pretty things, and various other beers that are either very difficult to come by in Georgia or not available at all...not to mention some fun glassware.

Overall, i was very pleased with my experience at the store and will be back again on x-mas eve 2012 during my annual trip to Louisville.

I've been shopping at this place for about a year now, and have been in multiple times.

A: The store is always clean, well-lit, and well-stocked. To the best of my knowledge, it always seems to be open on time.

Q: The quality of the selection is very good, especially when one takes into consideration the area in which this store is located. They seem to take great pains in insuring that their offerings are stored properly and of the highest quality.

S: To be honest, the service is variable (as one would expect from about any place). For the most part, the staff are friendly, if not overly attentive. Generally, the individuals who frequent this store know what is available and know what they are looking for, so I suppose that the staff assumes that the customer will do the work. I should point out, though, it is never a good idea to call this place, as none of the staff seem to understand or care about proper phone etiquette.

S: The selection is very good for the Kentuckiana area. The store carries a number of reputable imports, as well as products from local and regional craft breweries. If you look around, it's not too hard to find something outstanding here.

V: It's a little pricier than some, but not as expensive as others. To be honest, I've never really had a complaint with the prices, and have even been able to find things at this store that are much more expensive elsewhere.

Overall, I would recommend this store. The selection is generally near excellent, the facility is nice and well-maintained, and the prices aren't horrible. One can do far worse than spending an afternoon here.

First of all i love this place. Went for the first time yesterday while i was here in lousivlle. I am from Florida so having acesses to different brewaries is really nice. When i walked in i was immediatley excited to the left they have an extremely wide selection of imports, and also a very nice selection of glassware. Then to the right there was a wide variety of craft beer. I was excitied to see alot of the beers i dont have acesses to in Florida like Founders, Three floyds, Goose Island etc. The only issue i have with this place is the pricing is a little high, but nothing i wasnt willing to pay. I was able to pick up a couple of Founders, including KBS, which i was extremly happy about. I also was picked up some Goose Island. But the real suprise was Brooklyn Black Ops. I picked that up as fast as i could, never thought i would have been able to find that, extremely happy. Great place to have a beer and shop, very nice establishment.

This is an outstanding beer store. In addition to having two coolers chock full of interesting selections, and several floor-to-ceiling sets of shelves full of crazy choices, most of which are imports, it also has 10 or so beers on tap.

I had a Three Floyds Rabbid Rabbit, which I had never tried. I enjoyed it, as well as chatting with the fellow who worked there and worked the taps. My friend had a porter he liked as well.

The store is semi-expensive, but considering the outlandishness of the choices, I'd say the prices were actually reasonable. They had stuff I've never even really seen. They also had three bottles of KBS listed at $6.95 a pop....

I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who's a beer fan and is looking for something beyond Budweiser-like choices.

This is an interesting, unique little store. It is easy to find but there is only street parking that I'm aware of. Once you're inside, most of the brews there are stacked on bookshelves; it looks like a library almost! They have a very good selection of microbrews and imports, but the prices are somewhat higher than you'd find at larger retailers. That's OK, though, it's nice to support the 'little guy' every once in awhile. They were a friendly staff, although not overly attentive (it took awhile to get someone's attention but I wasn't in a hurry or anything)... One cool thing about the place is that they do have 6 or so rotating taps with great brews you can try in the store. All in all, a good resource for the town. It's a relaxing place to go browse for some good beer.

An interesting little store. Very difficult to find and not really in a great location. Arrived at 1 only to find that the store opens at 1"ish". what on earth does that mean? waited around until 1:20 and was about to give up when a young guy came running up to open the door. He was super nice and helpful but that still doesn't make up for a business who's hours are "ish"
The selection is small but good. If I was a regular here I am sure they'd be able to hook me up with things I was in need of but for a quick stop it was a bit spuratic. The prices varied a lot. For some things they were high by as much as a dollar or so a bottle.... for other things they were definitely on th lower end. They also have some interesting large format bottles. Didn't check out the taps as I was in a rush but overall, worh stopping at but not worth driving out of your way for

Let me be honest, I was not impressed by this store. I have seen so much hype over it, and yet when I went there for the first time I was very disappointed in what I found.

The first thing I saw on the shelves was a 16.9 oz bottle of Weihenstephan Kobinian. This is normally $2.99 at the local big liquor store; it was $3.99 here. What's more, they really didn't have much better selection than the big Louisville liquor store either--particularly when looking at domestic beers. If imported sours are your thing (which they aren't for me), then I guess this is the place for you. But beyond that they didn't have very much that I couldn't find elsewhere for a better price. Brooklyn Local 1-- $8.99 at Whole Foods (who is pricey in their own right); $10.99 at LBS!!!

Now, I know some people will say, "Well, you're also paying for the atmosphere," but this was not the atmosphere I am interested in either. Prior to going there I had called a few times looking for some hard-to-find beers and every time I was struck by how rude/snobbby the person on the phone came off as being. Of course, I chalked this up to poor phone etiquette and didn't think much off it. However, when I was in the store all I heard was the beer attendant complaining about how none of the distributors were sending them enough even though they are there top sellers in the city (which I find hard to believe in itself, specifically when it concerns a brewery like Bell's which is everywhere). They also complained about the taxes in Kentucky. This is funny since the store is located less than a mile over the river from Indiana, so if they were really concerned about it . . .

Anyway, like I said, I was disappointed. Honestly, I didn't find much of a reason for me to frequent this establishment given the cheaper, better stocked stores closer to my home. Granted, they did seem to have a nice collection of taps, but I'm not much of a beer store drinker, so it doesn't factor into my decision much.

Louisville, despite it's location in the middle of bourbon country, has quite a developing craft beer scene and nothing shows that more than the Louisville Beer Store. Lori and Tyler (owners) are almost always on hand behind the bar and both know a ton about beer, especially imports.

The store is a bit small and can get cramped on weekend nights and during some of their tasting events (more on that later) but there is a nice patio area out back to enjoy when weather permits.

Their selection is as good as you will find in the city and the ability to buy singles of everything makes it even better for those who enjoy trying new beers. There is also an 8-tap system which always has a great selection of both American and import craft brews on. Currently they have DFH Burton Baton, Mikkeller Santa's Little Helper, and Gouden Carolus Noel 2008 Vintage on draft, amongst others.

The store also has a ton of tasting and educational events as well. Within the past few months Sierra Nevada, Upland, and DogFish Head have all had tap takeover events there and Upland even had a keg of their barrel-aged Teddy Bear Kisses for the patrons to enjoy.

Price is a touch higher than the local Liquor Barns but you expect that in a bottle shop. I'm a big proponent of growing the Louisville beer scene and the Louisville Beer Store has certainly helped with that. It's a treasure for the city and a place I recommend any beer fan visiting Louisville to check out.

The Louisville Beer Store is one of the best places in Louisville to drink a beer. They have a great variety of bottled beers as well as 8 taps. They also have a nice patio out back where you can enjoy a cigar with your beer. Smoking is banned at all indoor facilities in Louisville.

The staff knows their beers and is always willing to give a recommendation. They offer many activities and tastings which allows you to try a variety of beers without having to buy the full bottle.

Also, many of the patrons are beer lovers. This leads to great conversation. The atmosphere is perfect for drinking and meeting beer lovers.

Wow. The selection here can make me squeal like a schoolgirl. With only one exception, noone around brings an A-Game selection like this. No need to pick and choose, just grab a bottle. If you like the style, you'll like what you grabbed.

Almost constantly squeezing things onto their schedule in love of beer, you never know what tidbit they'll come out with next.

It can be a little difficult grabbing someone's attention, but often because someone's got them raving over a brew they just got in.

Bring a thirst for great beer (and a thick wallet.)
