Donnelly's seems to have been around for awhile, a quaint neighborhood Irish pub that would be welcome in Anytown USA. In the parking lot there was a "vintage" Guinness sign that was probably erected when they first opened.

Inside it was dark with wood paneling, and a white roofed faux cottage towards the back. Bar on the right, small dining area to the left of a brass rail, and cozy dining areas further back. Impressive mini-bottle collection framed on the back wall.

The bar seemed recently redone with cord and shamrock accents into the wood of the back bar, and xmas decorations still up. Two large flatscreens playing fox news and espn.

Bartender was a sweet lady that was my mother's age, and she took great care of us. We asked for the beer menu and noticed a few more in the coolers not on the list. A few obscure imports and serviceable craft beers. Duvel, Ruddles County, Abbot Ale, Boddingtons, Matilda, Crooked Tree, Founders Centennial, Ballast Point Yellow Tail, Boulevard Irish Ale (BBD 04/10 unfortunately). Taps were nothing worth mentioning really other than Old Speckled Hen and Rogue Dead Guy.

A nice little bar, but the selection isn't in the same league as Kellehers or Water St. Cafe downtown.

This is the kind of neighborhood place that after a couple of visits, it feels like home. Ale lovers will be the most at home with their large offering of Irish & English ales. If you are a lager or Belgian Ale lover (like me) you have not been forgotten, there is always a small but excellent offering of those styles.
Not too many places offer the Czech made Krusovice, one of my favorites, it has the perfect amount of bite. The Belgian Ale I am ordering every time at Donnelly's is Corsendonk Agnus Triple. This beer is so good, a bit less sweet than Duvel and more drinkable than Westmalle, both of which I love.
The beer is not the only draw, their kitchen puts out way above average pub fare, most notable sandwiches are the Irish Sausage and the Waterford Grilled Chicken. Every one of their homemade soups are killer.
They don't always put out the beer menus so you may have to ask... but do ask you will enjoy
