Smells somewhat odd like a sour beer, but tastes great. Interesting hybrid between witbier type yeasty flavored and amber ale hoppiness. Good stuff...

A well-rounded brew. Warm flavor and smooth tone that feels like a sip of liquid satin. Served cold, the first taste is crisp. A perfect blend of ingredients. Not so filling as it leaves room to pair with a nice filet!

22 oz. bottle:

Pours ruby-tinted amber - a very nice color/hue. A foamy off-white head leaves patchy lacing.

The taste is of toasted caramelized bread with juniper spicing.

The taste is of light doughy, slightly toasted bread. Very slight earthy hop spicing. Malt-forward throughout but not too sweet. Pleasant juniper twist in the finish.

Smooth with a nice lingering finish.

A unique brew - a solid Amber with a juniper touch.

Single 12 ounce can, on to the beer:

The beer has a deep amber red color with a thick fluffy head which retains well. It smells like a solid amber ale. On the maltier side with a sweet toffee and nutty aroma, with an underlying fruitiness. As the aroma would suggest, the taste is sweet, but it is also refreshing. The nutty and toffee baseline reminds me of an altbier, and the kiss of juniper berries adds a little exciting twist. It's medium/full bodied, chewy, yet it remains an easy drinker. It's a great break from the many hoppy offerings from the Pacific Northwest.

From notes taken 05/21/16:

Dull, mostly clear brownish copper. Foamy, fine, creamy-tan head of good retention with superb but splotchy lacing. Faint caramel, dark fruit aromas. Juniper, not so much. Similar to the taste with leathery, leafy, tea-like and/or piney bitterness from hops and juniper. Gets sweeter as it warms. Decent, balanced, could stand to be more complex apart from just the mouthfeel. Medium-bodied, dry, astringent, fairly well carbonated with fine tingles and loose suds.

Enjoying a glass of this on-tap at the restaurant in the Space Needle in Seattle with my wife on our last day here before we fly home tonight. Served in a standard pint glass, this beer is a clear, medium to dark Amber color with a white head that's about half an inch thick when first served to me. Settles to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with some clusters of a film layer of surface foam and decent lacing. Aromas of somewhat toaste, crystal, caramel malt sweetness from lowed by a mild to moderate hop presence. The taste is pretty much the same, with a nice, fairly toasted, crystal, caramel malt sweetness that gives way to some earthy, piney, floral hop bitterness. Well balanced flavor profile here. Has a slightly crisp, smooth, kind of frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Easy to drink in the way that good beer ought to be. A solid beer here that complimented my lunch quite nicely indeed.

Growler from Albertsons. Seeing a wide variety of scores here, and I’ll go with the downside, average at best, with a flat metallic finish. Might be closer to a brown ale than an amber, but that wouldn’t improve any scores....

Handsome pile of suds on the dark reddish amber brew. Lots of lacing in the Troubadour tulip. Pleasant frothy mouthfeel.

Some malty sweetness. This has that nutty and musty taste that I like in a brown ale, so it's interesting to encounter it here. The juniper is fortunately quite subtle, but there's a a tangy, resiny note that goes well with the malt. Some roasted malt with a little caramel.

Rather bitter after some sipping. Just enough to give an edge to this mellow and gulpable brew. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at The Market in Anacortes.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark bronze amber with a half finger light khaki head that dissipates to a film, leaving light lacing. Rich aroma of bready and pale malt, light caramel, a light piney element that I can't place as juniper, but it must be. Flavor is light biscuit and bready malt, mildly nutty, with light juniper that becomes more dominant in the finish. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. The profile of this is closer to a light old ale or brown ale, but more subdued. The malt is well flavored and I wanted more intensity in the interesint malt background. The juniper redeems this, it is somewhat mild and unexciting otherwise. Juniper is added with a deft hand and even with the light malt flavors, the juniper is at the right level. I'd kind of like to see a larger version of this some day.
