Dark old school British pub vibe, with a good beer selection, and the best burgers in Michigan. Get the cheeseburger as it comes, an order of onion rings, and pair it all with any of the generally good beer choices they have

Awesome burgers, love the scotch egg, amazing ranch (you have to try it to understand), unpretentious atmosphere, one of my goto's and there aren't a lot of those. Don't expect to get your tush kissed, it's not that kind of place, I'd call it honest. I'm in the service industry, and definitely appreciate coming here, especially late night since the kitchen is open until 1:50AM.
The best part, just ask for the beer list, or as they call it, the beer bible. Awesome selection, not everything is always there expectedly, but impressive nonetheless. And the topper, ask for the reserve list. In it you'll find a list of some of their cellared selection, which is pretty good. Awesome way to try cellared beer (I personally can't bring myself to hide beer to forget about it for years at a time), as well as some of the more obscure hard to finds.
Definitely a must try.

the red coat tavern's food is second to none. everything on the menu is delicious, especially the piedmontese beef burgers and scotch eggs. expect to wait for a table or a spot to eat. there will be a wait no matter when you go, even on a tuesday morning. the wait is usually around 90 minutes on weekends. i really like this place because of the exceptional food and the number of high quality beers that are available. there are only a few taps but the extensive selection available from the beer cellar makes this spot one of the best places to grab a bite and a brew in metro detroit. the red lights are a little hard on the eyes but the food and the beer selection makes it tolerable most days.

Even on a Tuesday night, this Burger joint will easily have a 30-60 minute wait unless you call ahead. The Burgers are renowned in the area, even if they are a little pricey. I've only been to the location on Woodward however they have opened up another spot on Orchard Lake Road. (I've heard the food is just as great, just brings in a different sort of crowd due to the location)
The only thing that suffers is the service and that's purely due to the volume and amount of activity in the establishment every night.
The beer selection is pretty good with plenty of craft beers however when you're at Redcoat, you're focusing on the food!

This is one of my favorite restaurants on the planet. Exceptionally good pub food (especially the burgers and the onion rings) in big portions, excellent beer selection and waiters who know their shit. Prices are very reasonable on the food, though can run a bit pricey on the beers, especially the better beers (e.g., Ommegang). Very interesting selection of beers on tap too: I got an Allagash White last time I was there. The Royal Oak location is styled like a British pub (as the name should suggest), while the West Bloomfield location is more of an upscale, yuppie atmosphere. Otherwise, the two are almost exactly the same. Overall, a truly excellent restaurant.
