Once I got past the childish packaging, cracked the can and poured this beer in a glass, I was glad I persevered. Minimal head and more carbonation than I generally like in a brown ale, but this is a very drinkable beer. This beer is actually quite reminiscent of Newcastle. The caramel and chocolate notes are definitely pleasant. It could be a bias, but I find that all of the beer that comes out of this brewery has an extra grainy, ethanol undertone. Overall, however, the Drummond boys definitely have "something brewing" with their craft line.

Another boxed 4 pack of 355 ml cans, more from Drummond.
This beer pours a clear, dark reddish brown, light beige foam rises up then settles to a short tight cap. Some chunks of lace, head recedes but never disappears.
It smells of caramel malt, a bit nutty, and leafy or woodsy hops.
The taste starts sweetish, caramel maybe a touch of chocolate/cocoa, then finishes with the earthy (almost metallic) hops.
The carbonation is fine, the body is medium, smooth and kind of creamy.
No complaints, nice to see Drummond moving away from the bargain-brand lagers.

355ml can, another surprising and new 4-pack available from the craft-adjacent arm of this Red Deer brewing institution. Ok, not one, but two unnecessary, but obviously intended spelling errors in the name of this offering alone, sheesh.

This beer pours a clear, dark red brick amber hue, with four flabby fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and frothy beige head, which leaves a bit of sudsy splattered lace around the glass as it genially recedes.

It smells of gritty, grainy caramel malt, mixed bar-top nuts (where have I heard that recently?), weak stale cocoa notes, and leafy, weedy hops. The taste is semi-sweet caramel malt, nut-flecked dessert bread, department store sale chocolate, a sort of dissociated ashiness, and rather proper earthy, leafy, and weedy noble hops.

The carbonation is nice and level, the benign fizziness kosher as can be, the body a sturdy medium weight, and plainly smooth, nothing really having the heart or impetus to muck about here. It finishes off-dry, the sweetness of the caramel and chocolate malts enough on their own, without mentioning that nutty, creamy essence on top of it all.

Another pleasant enough rendition of a classic style (I knew these guys had it in them), the nutty and chocolate notes tethered, sure, but still evident enough to garner a modicum of applause, at least. Looking forward to seeing more from this seemingly sudden rebranding.
