750 ml bottle, best before 8/9/2013. Poured into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: Pours a dark red/brown color with less than a finger of a tan head that settles to a thin ring. Body is clear with lively visible carbonation.

Smell: Lots of oak and vinegar with sour cherry, green apple, leather.

Taste: Oak, sour cherry, red berry, leather, apple, mild funk and maybe some red grape. Sourness is on the lower end of medium with a mild balancing sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Light/medium bodied with a somewhat soft mouthfeel and light/medium carbonation.

Overall: So complex and well balanced. One of the most under appreciated beers out there.

Surprisingly solid head (1 1/2 fingers) of bubbly and firm light tan, almost white color. Brew is the expected reddish-brown cloudy hue. Head retention is very good. Little to no lacing.

Aroma of vinegar is immediate. Some light funk, oak and vanilla, and musty wheat. Very delicate and complex behind the sourness.

Flavor is initially much more mellow than the aroma, leading with soft tannins and a flowery sweetness that lingers. The sourness is more of a middle and end flavor, and hits the back of the throat hard. Slightly nutty, with dark fruits and grapes. Slightly musty yeast feel, with almost no funk flavor.

That aforementioned back-throat sourness is a little harsh, but other than that, the feel is smooth and velvety, right in the middle between gulp thin and chew thick. Decent amount of sting.

I'd have to have them all in the same sitting, but this might be the tastiest Rodenbach I've had yet (compared to '09 and Grand Cru). Feel and flavor are just phenomenal.
