Appearance: Dark red/Brown, small, short-lived head.

Smell: Vinegar, sweet dark red fruits; cherry, etc.

Taste: Tart up front, with some cherry/fruity sweetness and some lactic sourness on the end, dry finish. Nice.

Mouthfeel: Smooth going down, Dry on the finish. Awesome.

Drinkability: Would be higher if it weren't so sour. Would be an amazing summer refresher, but as I'm drinking it early February it's a rare treat.

I got mostly grape notes from this, almost like a tart wine...the sourness is sharp but it finishes very clean, and it is balanced excellently with the fruit notes.

S: Oaky, tart, vanilla, brett, berries

A: Very dark ruby brown, thick creamy dark head

T: Sweet and tart cherries, touch of vanilla and woodiness. Tart, vinegar, extremely dry finish.

M/D: Medium, slick, and dry. Very delicious and drinkable.

Overall: I like the more oak aging on this one, than the normal version. The extra oak/wild bugs adds more flavor and yet more dryness, making it more drinkable for me.

When I realized I gave it an A+, I kind of second-guessed myself, but I stand by it. This is a phenomenal Flander's Red. World class IMO.

Pours a mostly clear, ruby/brown with a 1-finger, short lasting, tan head that leaves no lacing.
The smell is tart fruits and is vinegary, it's very pleasant.
The taste starts with a cider vinegar moves quickly into sweet and sour fruits and ends with a tart green apple flavor that lingers a while. I feel a bit of the acidic burn down my throat as well.
Mouthfeel is light tending toward medium with appropriate though, maybe, slightly low carbonation for me.
Drinkability: For me this is excellent though those not enamored with sour beers may find it a chore. I've held onto this bottle for a couple of years and it may have mellowed slightly. I will have to pick up another this week.

750 bottle after a great meal with friends.

A- a nice inch or so of tan head that settles to a ring. Gorgeous hazy dark red brown in color.

S- I love the nose on this. Funky must, apple cider vinegar, old oak, cherries, leather, the depth of complexity is staggering.

T- the nose doesn't lie, this delivers in a big way. Tart and sour, funky and woody. Over ripe cherries and apple cider again. Oak builds with a dry graininess as the brew warms.

M- crisp, clean and ever so refreshing with a nice pucker. Low carb but right in line for the style.

D- this brew is so perfectly drinkable. Its sour but balanced so well with the sweetness and oak that I have on more the one occasion had one after the other for hours.

Appearance: a lovely reddish/brown pour with a lively, off-white head.

Smell: tart cherries and a musty woodiness.

Taste: tart of the top. cherry fruitiness creeps through instantly. some of the sweetness peeks out for a moment but the tart ale moves towards the back of the mouth and makes its presence on the back of the tongue. A perfect blend of sweet n sour.

Mouthfeel: lively and crisp. ends off semi-dry. very lively and active. some creaminess mid sip.

Drinkability: hey, it doesn't get much better than this. have it as an apertif, have it as a night cap. great range. great complexity. World Class!

Appearance: Nice head, healthy lace, deep red/brown

Smell: Sour fruit, I can't pick out which. Hints of malt.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Tart, fruity (cherry, plum, grapes?), sharp sourness, extremely complex. I won't for a minute oretend to be able to pick out everything. My palate will need a bit more time, time I'm willing to take.

Drinkablity: Wonderful, absulutely wonderful. I've never had anything like it.

An orange/red colored body that is lightest and more orange at the edges and becomes darkner with developing red hues closer to the center. About two fingers of tan head spring up and have some solid retention, but only very spotty lacing.

This aroma is bursting with all kinds of layers, and is rather strong in a pleasant way. Fruitiness and tartness come together with sour cherries and maybe a bit of plum. A good dose of oak is in there too. Vinegar comes through pretty powerfully too. Rodenbach Grand Cry has A well-crafted nose that is sure to impress.

A tartness is noticeable up front and is fairly strong, but overall this one has a great balance that includes sweet, sour, and oak flavors. To start, the sourness teams with cherry-like fruit sweetness. The sweetness from the fruit then becomes a bit darker, and the plums I thought I noticed in the aroma are definitely noticeable in the taste. In addition to fruit-like tartness there is also a good dose of vinegar here; good red wine vinegar, the expsive type that you might even consider drinking small quantities of. Underlying this sweet and sour concoction is a big, balancing oak flavor that seems to insure that nothing becomes too sour or too sweet. Woody, and only very slightly spicy. Tasty beer overall.

No surprise that the mouthfeel here is pretty well done.

Rodenbach Grand Cru has a ton of flavor but manages to remain balanced at the same time. This is one of the best Flanders I have had, and is certainly the best that is readily available and reasonably priced.

I am new to the sour beers but I am very impressed by this one. This is what I would use to introduce people to sour beers. The hue of the beer is a pleasant amber with a tinge of red in it. Smell is a sweet scent accompanied by tartiness. It goes down very smooth and sits lite in the stomach which is impressive for the ABV. The taste is a great balance of sweet fruitiness, with a sour bite and still maintaining the beer body. This one has easily escalated to one of my go-to beers when available.

Clear mahogany which turns crimson when the light strikes it, tight and creamy ecru foam. Dark fruits drive the beer - sour cherry, plum, and cranberry. Sour and funky, of course. The acidity further accentuates the fruity aspects. The funkiness is reminiscent of an old, moist basement. Musty oak, almost mossy. The oakiness lingers into the finish - certainly the most vinous of beer styles. Mild sweetness balances and contrasts the sourness.

World class and the benchmark for the style. Not much more to say, except that I'm so thankful this beer is available to me year-around. Why are some regularly spending $30/bottle on hard-to-find mediocre American sours when this stuff is sitting around for 1/3 of the cost all over the US?

Poured from fridge temp. Not much carbonation. Dark mahogany color - beautiful. Smell is sour, funk, cherries, grapes, tart, and maybe a bit of rhubarb. Flavor is an explosion! Nice sour and tart notes. Sweetness comes through on the taste. Really amazing fruit notes. Nicely balanced. Mouthfeel is great - really coats the mouth and lingers.

Served a bottle at Cambrinus Pub in Bruges, and it was so good, I brought a 4 pack home and served it with a pepper encrusted porterhouse steak and asparagus.

A- Pours a thick creamy reddish-brown, forming a heavy off white head that rescinds quickly and leaves an intricate lace all over the beer. The lace eventually disappears.

S- Heavy acetic acid with some tart fruits like plums and dark cherries. Hard to pick out any flavors over the acetic acid.

T- Straight up sweet and sour. Deliciously sour with strong acetic notes, dark cherries, plums, and some really nice oak and bready, like a piece of bread soaked in red wine vinegar and buried in a pot for 3 years.

M- Really wonderful. Chewy and sour, with some nice oils, and impressively moist. Something this sour usually dries you out, but it's really refreshing.

D- Easily one of my favorite beers. So tasty and refreshing. I can't say enough about this beer. I'd never had it before my trip to Europe, and I was so happy to see it in nearly all of the beer stores I frequent back home.

Overall, I love this beer and drink it FREQUENTLY. Great with dinner. A nice steak or delicious pot roast. If it wouldn't be such a waste of good (and expensive) beer, I'd love to cover a good roast in this and slow cook it for 8 or 10 hours...mmm

A: Dark red with 3/4 finger head. Good lacing.

S: Not too acetic but still some sour notes.

T: Sour and sweet. Great balance unlike the 2010 la folie we drain poured the night before. I'm pretty sure that balance comes from pasteurization so take it for what it's worth.

M: awesome session beer, medium body, med-high carbonation

O: favorite Flanders red so far

Obviously this beer needs not much of an intro. It is one of the most widely recognized flander red ales around the world.

The nose has hints of mashed cherries and oak. The taste is utterly refreshing. This could be consumed all day long. For days on end.

It has notes of dried cherries, slight vanilla, and a wonderful woody sour taste that just dances across the tongue and begs one to take another sip.

A wonderful mouthfeel from the champagne like bubbles.

Drink it up. What a brew.

8 oz. on draft at Novare Res in Portland, Maine. Served in an Allagash tulip.

Appearance: Pours a murky ruby brown with a short crown of bubbles.

Aroma: Big bouquet. Wine, cherries, tartness, vinegar, barnyard.

Taste: Follows the nose. Delicious. Wine-like. Cherries and sourness dominate, but there's a mix of inviting flavors.

Mouthfeel: Also wine-like. Way better though (duh).

Overall: Excellent sour beer. Complex, delicious and refreshing.
