BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Six Row Brewing Company
Missouri, United States

Style: American Black Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Bold and satisfying, this Imperial Black India Pale Ale is a dark and devouring brew made with a touch of darkly roasted malt to give it the distinctive ebony color. The rich malt base is then bombarded with bountiful amounts of American hops lending bitterness along with citrus flavor and aroma. Although tempting, be patient and let this Ale warm in the glass a little to really let the layers of flavor unfold.

A -pours pitch black with a tan / mocha head with nice lacing all the way down.

S - Chocolate, hops, floral, fruity, raisins, malts.

T - Malts, chocolate, plum, some oakiness, hops meet up and balance out nicely. Bitter finish and a tongue bruiser. I noticed it mellowed out as it came to room temp.

O - Really solid brew - this one blurs some lines on what style it is. Is is t Stout, an IPA, an American Black ale....Who cares really. It is a damn good brew that is worth a try.

Black in color and yet when held up to light you can still see through it slightly. A half inch thick layer of tightly packed beige foam rests on top. Brussels lacing. Aroma is mostly that of dark malt and chocolate. I guess I'm used to a stronger hop aroma with this style. The taste is initially dark malt and then a strong bitterness of primarily vegetal to piney hops. The mouth is creamy and moderately carbonated.

Pours a deep dark black with brown head, nice retention and fair amount of lacing. The nose has some mellow dark chocolate, fruity hops, a bit of pine towards the finish. The hops aren't real aromatic on the smell. The hops comes through on the tongue with mild bittereness, moderate roast, and nice balance. This drinks more like a mildly hoppy porter... think this one blurs that line of where a porter ends and a cascadian dark ale begins. Either way, the flavors are well balanced and this brew is very drinkable. The ABV is non existent.
