22 ounce bottle from Atlanta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours with an opaque, brown-black body topped with a thin tan head. Good lacing.

Aroma: roasted grains; hints of smoke and dark chocolate.

Taste: dark roasted grains, dark chocolate, coffee, subtle smoke; dark dried fruits, light alcohol esters, brown sugars, molasses and cherry. Lightly sweet overall.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium-light carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. Some warming but no heat.

Overall: rich and well-crafted RIS. Recommended.

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 12.99. Not bottling date but this hit shelves late March 2015. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours pitch black with almost three fingers of tan head. The froth eventually settles to some surface haze and thick ring. Some rather large deposits of lace remain behind on the glass.

Smells of cocoa, roasty malts, caramel and dark fruit.

Flavors are simultaneously soft and rich. Fudge, creamed coffee, dark fruit, caramel, mild roast, faint smoke, an almost raspberry sweetness and a slight boozey burn. The roasty malts and fudge are ever present while all of the other flavors dance in and out. There's no escaping the alcohol presence but it fits the flavors and style well.

Creamy, robust, full body with soft carbonation. Smooth, roasty, cocoa, caramel and dark fruits linger in the long, sweet finish.

I've enjoyed Jailhouse's Breakout Stout for years so it's great to see them ramp up into full-on Russian imperial stout. Thieves In The Law is a smooth, fudgey take on the style. This is rich and delicious now and I suspect it will also hold up favorably for several years.

look: dark as a mofo. Not seen anything getting through this dark hearted brew. Sparse tan head on the pour but it sticks around.
smell: Rich creamy RIS. Nothing unique but a damn fine RIS nose.
taste: Wow. Full easy drinking adult milkshake. Again, nothing unique but a damn fine RIS.
overall: i might be accused of being a homer here, this being a Ga brewery and all but i believe i'm objective here. Damn fine RIS.

22 ounce bottle - $12.99 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a deep black body with a brownish, medium-small head.

Smell: Sugary, sweet-smelling roastiness given a spritz of clean, cleansing alcohol, cherry-berry fruitiness and a savory, umami-ish olive hint.

Taste: Roasted, subtly smoky malts with dark sugars, caramel syrup and chopped black olives. Fruitiness of strawberry, raisin and cherry. Restrained hop character and bitterness. Sweetish, warming finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-light carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.

Overall: While not bad nor unejoyable, it just didn't hit the right notes for me. Admittedly, my lady and I were dueling two stouts while cooking in the kitchen and this one's weakness were made all that more apparent when set against its competitor.
