This was an interesting one...poured a dark brown with a light head. Aroma was nice and roasty, some underlying tartness coming through. First taste was that of a dry stout...then a light hit of tartness on the back end. Finishes medium dry and semi funky. Interesting beer!

On tap at South Park Abbey for their mini-sour fest. Poured into Karmeliet tulip glass

A: Dark brown in color, completely opaque, almost no head to speak of.

S: The nose is ripe cherries predominantly, with a light vinegar backdrop. There's a nutty, toasty scent, almost like roasted chestnuts.

T: Cherries upfront, but drier than expected. The woody aspects detected in the nose really dry and mellow the palate. Only slightly sour. Notes of black pepper and nutmeg play nicely against the sweet, fruity aspects. Finishes short and dry, really drinkable.

M: Light and refreshing on the palate. Lightly carbonated, appropriately.

This beer's impressive. Tastes more like an old Belgium recipe than a new wild sour, and its completely drinkable. I haven't really paid much attention to Eagle Rock...I'm going to from now on.

4.9% according to the menu at 38 Degrees in Alhambra. Served into a 4.5oz taster glass; cost was $3.50 USD. Expectations are above average; this is me first sour from Eagle Rock. Reviewed from notes taken over the weekend.

A: Pours a half finger white colour head which quickly collapses to a miniscule floating ring in about twenty seconds. Body colour is an unexpectedly dark ruby-black. Opaque. Solid and strong in colour. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Appealing, but the lack of head has me worried.

Sm: Subtle tart fruit. Lacto yeast. It's somewhat sour, but it doesn't seem like it'll warrant puckering upon consumption. Malts and hops are hidden behind the dominant lacto sourness; it's hard to pick out any intricacies. Berry. No alcohol is detectable. A moderate strength aroma. I'm looking forward to trying it.

T: Nice tart fruit and berry. Raspberry. Restrained lacto sourness - it isn't at all puckerworthy. Excellent balance, though it is a bit simple. Lovely build for the style. A surprisingly well executed sour from Eagle Rock. No alcohol comes through. Some subtlety. I quite like it, though it does sweeten a bit unnecessarily on the finish.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Perfectly carbonated. Good thickness. Suits the flavour profile well. Good body and presence on the palate.

Dr: Excellent rookie attempt at a sour. I'm pleasantly surprised; EAGLE ROCK did this? I'd definitely get it again. Lovely stuff and well priced. Extremely drinkable. I hope they offer growlers soon.

On tap for The Full Pint 6th Anniversary Celebration held at 38 Degrees in Alhambra, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark crimson-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour and tart with malt, dark fruit, and vinegar aromas. Taste is much the same with dark fruit, vinegar, and char flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty but smells slightly better in my opinion.
