Centrally located amongst a ton of chain stores in some weird layout of a mall or outlet center. Weird parking lot, couldn't tell where entrance was to the place. Made it over to the beer aisle and was amazed at how pedestrian it all was. Usual suspects.

Neat to see hop stoopid and racer 5, but I guess I'm kinda spoiled lately. Was about half the variety of the typical whole foods. Didn't even have the normal ratio of hot chicks in the place. Wasn't asked for any help, didn't bother to buy anything, a total strikeout lookin'.

As Whole Foods go, this isn't one of the better ones (smallish selection, but with some interesting beers available). However, given how weak the Monterey beer scene is, this place wasn't half bad, with a decent selection of FW stuff, plus the newly released Abyss and the Black Butte XXVI on offer. As it was just down the street from the hotel me and the GF were staying in, I was happy to have it around, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here otherwise.

Not sure why the craft beer selection is so weak at these Coastal Whole Foods (the new Santa Cruz store was even worse), but they're still fairly decent, with an OK selection of local and regional offerings (and a smattering of imports). Shrug. Could be worse I guess.

The Whole Foods in Monterey, which is located in the Del Monte Shopping Center, is one of the best places in town to buy beer. Their selection isn't very large, but in a small space they pack a lot of punch.

Plenty of six packs of craft brews from the western US with an occasional eastern brew take up the bulk of the space, with some room given to mainstream items such as Corona, Modelo, and the faux-crafts like Blue Moon and Shock Top.

Additionally, they have about a third of their shelf space devoted to larger bottles which are almost all imports: some Belgians and Germans, and also some larger-bottle Belgian-style, etc.

All in all, if one is seeking bottles in the Monterey area, the Whole Foods is one of the top spots.
