Went to the brewery with my dad earlier this evening for dinner and beers, as we are on vacation in Phoenix for another day. Had this beer on nitro tap. Served in a standard pint glass, this beer is a very dark brown, almost black color with an off-white/slightly tan colored head that is about an inch thick when first served. Settles to a solid 1/4 inch covering. Good lacing too. Aromas of dark, very roasted malts along with coffee and cocoa notes and a hint oats. Flavors of dark, very roasted caramel malts with some subtle sweetness that gives way to bittersweet dark chocolate and black roasted coffee notes. Rounded our with some oatmeal-esque graininess and a slight hint of hops. Has a slightly crisp, but mainly frothy and smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with light to moderate carbonation. Easy to drink in the good way. A solid beer indeed.

One of the rare beers that nitro totally works for for me. Gorgeous, as is often the case w/ nitro, huge, symmetrical cylinder of foam atop, gleaming jet black body. True to form for nitro, as well, the nose is muted, soft roast about all to be found. Taste is nice, though, a touch of sweetness amidst some roast and a touch of acidity. Smooth as ever, perhaps inching around a bit of wateriness, but then kinda coming back together on the swallow to feel smooth and rich. This has been good for a LONG time, and I still happily order it whenever I'm in the pub (when I'm not drinking tasty cask beer). Good stuff, FP.

Pours a finger and half of head on a black body.
The aroma is mild roast.
The taste is slightly sweet overall with mild roasty flavor.
The texture is smooth with low carbonation.
It's great looking and feeling with average flavor.
