Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Hop Knot IPA is made only from American malt and lots of American hops, which produce a big, broad-shouldered, hoppy beer backed up by a character as warm as, well, Mom and apple pie...

Hop Knot IPA get its peculiar name from the weaving of four different hops added at four separate times during the brewing process. Including our cavernous hop-back, which gets so stuffed with whole leaf hops that we feel genuine guilt for its excess. Hop Knot is an ale that is to be enjoyed with friends, spicy food or any time you need a good hop fix without the harsh bitterness. We hope you enjoy this pioneering beer made in the bold spirit of Americans everywhere.

Served in a 12 oz can at Old Town Tavern (Scottsdale, AZ). Pine resin, mint and some grapefruit with light malt undertones. Light to medium body with crisp carbonation. Crisp and refreshing with plenty of nice hop notes straight from the can.

Clearish gold.
Smells hoppy, indistinctly, in an earthy/herbal/piney sort of way.
It comes across as so juicy and delicious, overripe grapefruit and floral accents. Really tightly made and on point.

Yellow with some light orange to a lesser degree, smallish white head. Aroma was a lot of c hops. Well not a lot, just about the average amount, but smelled nice.

Taste, standard ipa stuff, bitter, slightly malty, holds up when newer hop varieties lose their punch. Solid option in Arizona, but every state has a good 2nd tier ipa. Plus for cans.

12oz can with travel mug
Notes taken on 06/17/2015

Picked this one up at the Wally World in Cottonwood, AZ

A: The pour reveals a mostly clear caramel amber body with a yellowish-orange hue to it. A nice fluffy cloud white head forms over and retains nicely before finally settling back down into the mug. Some sticky lace gets left behind in the form of a few splotchy dots.

S: The nose has a big pine essence to it with some light herbal and floral tones. A light swirl conjures up some mild citrus fruit as well. There is plenty of malt backing up to it with some baked bread and a hint of caramel sweetness. Mostly pine aromatics here but definitely better than was expecting actually.

T: The flavor has a bounty of pale malt breadiness and some light caramel sweetness added but still comes across nicely balanced and drinkable. I only get a moderate to lower amount of bitterness to this one and the lead stays with those sappy pine resins. A bit more leafy and herbal than the nose lead on with some kitchen spices sprinkled in. I am only getting a few flashes of that tangerine-grapefruit citrus though. More like a spiced grapefruit. Not nearly as much as others are reporting here however. Finishes smooth with no alcohol to report and a slightly resinous linger with more of that herbal spice to it than anything else.

M: Moderate filling body and tipping in favor of the lighter side. Creamy consistency provided from the carbonation. Low moderate amount of constricting bitterness and a semi-dry finish that is lightly crisp. Mostly clean with some sugary residuals.

D: Expectations were low to start for this one but it’s pretty okay actually. Definitely drinkable and mostly tasty without much further thought here. I definitely won’t be shy to pick this one up again.

This was poured into a ping glass.
The appearance was a light hazy burnt orange to amber color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace.
The smell had some malt sweetness, sweet floral hops and a light citrusy hops.
The taste replicated the aroma nicely leading into a light semi-sweet to bitter aftertaste, not bad.
The mouthfeel was about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs light and almost creamy.
Overall, a decent IPA, almost to the English style but I can see the American aspects of this one so...yeah, decent beer.
